Insurance Hike

I'd be looking at getting your agreed valuation upped on the C3. Would you really be able to replace it to the same standard for 25K? A mate paid 45k for a very nice '70 this past summer and it still needed a few things including a new convertible top.
Its slightly higher than that now, I can't remember, I just remember it was £25k for a fair few years, but I did up it recently. However, my C3 is only a base model 327 1968 t-top - not particularly desirable in any regard.

"not particularly desirable in any regard".........not so Capt. First year C3. Fewer numbers around than later cars. 327 loses nothing to replacement 350. Just that some so called 'knowlegeable' types have 'dissed' first year models due to unique combination of year specific parts.

Apologies, what I meant was say for comparison my base model 327 1968 t-top model is much less desirable that say a 1969 big block convertible, or a LT1 etc. Mine is also not standard any more, so wouldn't be desirable for the whole "complete numbers matching" brigade. I appreciate that, so I don't feel bothered when I modify the car here and there.

Hiya
Just jumping on this thread. I'm changing my insurance provider, Adrian Flux. Due to a friend's bad experience with an unfortunate incident of his car being hit in the side. Has anyone had any experience with Abbeyfields broker? They have provided a quote from Kgm. My main issue is being able to choose what garage the car ( good forbid anything happens) can go to? Even though I wrap the car in bubble wrap every journey 😆 🤣. Thanks Barb

Never heard of them. What's the car?/Agreed value?/Premium quoted? But I see that KGM are part of Howden, who also acquired Peter S Taylor and what was A-Plan. Howden seem to be popular and competitive on price (see above). Might be worth contacting KGM directly, to see if they can give you a better price, and shopping around with the companies/brokers the other members are using?

Follow up to Blondie 69 and from my earlier report - 29th October - I have now insured with Abbeyfields, really helpful, less £££ and better cover than Howdens who I have been with for a number of years. I have had cover with KGM, via various brokers, on various cars over the years and always been very happy with them. Check out my report, though obviously cars and circumstances are different for all of us.

As an aside to this thread it appears that the level of Insurer's cynicism is reaching new heights. Like most of us I suspect I'm used to getting an inflated quote when renewal is due. I normally then surf the other usual Classic Insurance suspects or in the case of a modern car the comparison sites for something more competitive. If I find a cheaper quote I'll normally take this back to the original insurer to see if they can match it. Usually after some humming and hawing they magically find a discount they can apply to reduce the original quote.
My Mustang renewal quote arrived by email recently and not surprisingly was a hefty rise over last years premium. This time I was given the option to visit their website where I could query the renewal, which I did, and this time without any discussion I was given the 'magic' discount online!
This was still higher than a quote from an alternative provider so I accepted the alternative. However, it appears that some insurers have become so used to queries about renewal prices that if the quote is not immediately accepted they'll automatically cough up the 'magic' discount without the usual telephone haggling!

Looks like a long running topic. Just had my renewal quote and its just over £1000, that's for my C5 Le Mans edition - plus 7 other cars and 1 moped !!
Interesting to note that none of the previous posts mention my insurer - Hagerty UK. Over the past few years that have offered excellent service and very competitive rates.

Interesting. See that Hagerty has a car valuation tool on their website, including Vettes. That concourse '63 Split Window C2 that I can't afford is quoted as £157k ;)
