If you are 'caught-out' without a new washer/gasket........plumbers PTFE tape is a great solution. Simply pop the old washer/gasket on the sump plug - wind a few turns of the tape around the thread, finish-off by squeezing the tape so its like a thread of string and continue winding it around the pump plug just under the washer/gasket. Should seal-up perfectly. I use the method every oil change. Never leaks.

Does anyone know the internal diameter size of the washer required? Have also been advised there are Dowty Washers / Nylon washers that are OEM spec for this purpose, also aware people use copper crush washers, but there is a risk of overtightening and destroying the thread in the sump pan.

The existing washer I noted in my earlier post is an OEM type nylon washer...... these last for ever but are too hard and run the risk of being overtightened (as noted for copper crush ones) and stripping the thread.
