HI there

Selling my beautiful 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car after over 4 years of great ownership experience, never let me down and has had a lot of mechanical upgrades / updates carried out.

The car is a numbers matching 1978 Pace Car with the L82 engine with forged pistons making around 220HP from factory, probably now around 250HP due to catalyst delete and baffled straight pipe exhaust. Car has factory 3speed automatic!

The car from factory was also a Gymkhana edition featuring uprated heavy duty coil springs along with rear swaybar from factory, the ride was very harsh but handled OK, but as such the following handling upgrades have been carried out, but all original parts are with the car:
- Bilstein HD suspension all round
- Composite rear leaf spring
- Front HD Springs

The result is improved handling but vastly improved ride comfort. The car has also recently had a full service along with full power steering over haul so the car has no oil leaks at all (rare for a C3 Corvette) and drive lovely and is very easy and relaxing to drive with the 3sp Auto.

Mechanically the car is a driver, you could use this car as a daily driver, it averages 15-22mpg depending on driving style, has 4 new tyres, rebuilt brakes all round and as such is ready to enjoy. The car shall be MOT for peace of mind (not a requirement) but I MOT it every two years to just get another set of eyes on the car that everything is well and safe. The car has no rot!

No groups or test pilots, any drives shall be conducted by myself, unless you transfer the full asking price for car and show proof of insurance, this is a reluctant sale but we need space for a new project. Purchased four years ago from a Corvette Club UK member who purchased the car from reknowned importer of C3's Gavin Roe. The car is superbly reliable and entire car has been gone over, the 8 Track still works.

As I say the car is mechanically spot on, enjoy it, drive it, even daily use if weather is good, it never see's wet days, always a dry use car but it is water tight.

Bad points:
- Some very minor blistering of paint work upon very close inspection, but it has won several awards at car shows, but I am picky and want to be honest.
- Cruise control does not work
- AC is no longer present, professionally removed (saved 60-70kg)

Good points:
- Handles superbly well for a car of this Vintage due to Bilstein and Composite spring
- 100kg weight reduction (deletion of AC, composite spring etc)
- If it matter its pretty rapid, 0-60 around 6s and can achieve 20mpg plus, we achieved around 22mpg on a journey to Lake District
- Mechanically gone over, no oil leaks, run smooth and steers great.
- Car professionally detailed (machine polish) and 5yr ceramic coating applied in 2023 - Car still looks incredible as per advert photos - email me fore some walk around 4K video

Any viewing welcome, based on Staffordshire / Cheshire border (North West / Midlands)
I have lots of videos of the car in 4K, which I shall try to post in this thread or as replies. :)

Me and the car shall be at the US Autoshow at Oulton Park in Cheshire if anyone wishes to view the car next Saturday. :)

I know this Corvette well as the seller lives a couple of miles from me and is also a NW club member. Personally I think it's a steal at this price and the buyer will not be disappointed. Gibbo has a few serious cars and all are kept in A1 condition.

Always liked the 1978 Pace car. Very striking and daring ( for 1978) especially with the door graphics in place. ( they were supplied loose for the dealers to install) . The silver interior again very glamorous and suites the car so well.
Chevrolet certainly put a lot of thought into what they wanted to achieve with the corvette’s debut as a indy 500 pace car.
It’s next outing for the 1986 race is very plain in comparison.

I personally could never think of why the corvette never “paced” the race before?
Certainly the all new 1963 corvette coupe would have been a sure contender for the roll, but it was not ment to be.
Again the all new 1968 complete with the “new” T-Top option would/should have been a clear cut contender for the pace car roll.

Still the corvette got there in the end, and the 1978 corvette pace car is probably the most popular corvette pace car about. Certainly the most plentiful as over 6000 were made ( each dealer got 1 car)

Looks a very nice example, and at a very reasonable price.
