Was at Sywell for Supercar Fest over the weekend and hung around as the event emptied to get access to the hangers for some photos. It was a great event and it was good being back at Sywell. Corvette (and me) survived 8 runs down the runway and held it's own amongst the plethora of super cars.

I have in the past looked at the cost of us hiring the runway for our Nationals but it would cost £100's per car maybe into the £1,000's

Corvette Nationals Sywell 18th & 19th July.
I thought I would provide an update on where we're at with this years Corvette Nationals planning.
We have two main sponsors this year, Gliptone & AlterTherm.
Arnold Clark are providing three C8 Corvettes on both Saturday & Sunday for members to test drive, Stingray, E Ray & ZO6.
As of last Friday 15th May there were just 9 rooms left at the Aviator hotel on site at Sywell for Saturday night.
Saturday gala dinner bookings will start soon.
Post gala dinner live entertainment is for the first time Vince Vega & The Road Dogs.
We have the three race car simulators and Scalextric that went down so well last year.
We have a GM Executive attending that will be providing an insight into the future of Corvette.
Gliptone will have a full range of detailing products and tools on display and discounted to members along with other trade stands.
Trophy presentation is on Sunday at 14:30
The AGM is as usual held on Saturday in the cockpit meeting room where members are given the chance to have their say and even put themselves forward for a committee position or regional rep role. There are currently three regions that have a vacant rep position - BNC (Beds, Northampton & Cambridgeshire) Central North & Hearts & North London. Mike Buchanan is stepping down after many years as Merchandise Secretary so please consider these positions. I am also after five years as Nationals Organiser stepping down as I feel the role is due a refresh even though I've really enjoyed my time on the committee. We do have a volunteer to fill my role but applications will be considered should anyone else put themselves forward.
All Corvette enthusiasts including members and non members are welcome at the Corvette Nationals and there is no entrance fee. You can come and go as you please and the event starts at 09:00 on Saturday closes at 17:00 then 09:00 - 16:00 on Sunday. Owners of other American cars are also welcome. Some of us like to make a long weekend of the event arriving on Friday and leaving on Monday and looking at hotel bookings on Friday there could be close to 100 of us arriving on Friday.

For those planning on attending the Corvette Nationals Gala Dinner on Saturday 18th July you can now make your menu choices from the selections below. Instructions on how to order your choices will follow this post.

Please note, we cannot place orders for any one or two course meals as it is a set price of £42.00 for a three-course meal in addition to the £3 supplement for Lamb dish. This is a direct instruction from the Management at Sywell

Starters:
Local Brixworth Pate served with red onion marmalade and toasted bread (GFO)

Smoked Salmon and pickled Cucumber Salad with horseradish crème fraiche (GF) (DF)

Goats Cheese and Tomato Tart served with rocket and basil dressing

Main Courses:
Chargrilled Lamb Steaks served with rosemary roasted new potatoes, seasonal greens and a red wine jus (£3 supplement per person)

Stuffed Chicken Breast. Chicken stuffed with a garlic herb stuffing with roast potatoes, honey roasted vegetables, seasonal greens and red wine jus (GFO)

Vegetable Wellington. Butternut squash and smoked cheese wellington served with garlic roasted new potatoes, seasonal greens and vegetable gravy (V) (VEO)

Desserts:
Lemon meringue tart with mix berry compote

Sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream

Profiteroles filled with cream and finished with chocolate sauce

Just to reiterate our Chairman's email today re; me stepping down from this role. After five years it's time for a change to bring in new and fresh ideas and for no other reason. I've enjoyed my time on the committee and maybe one day I'll take on another role. As Rob mentioned, we do have two excellent people eager to take on the role which if not opposed at the AGM will bring a new and in my opinion exciting dynamic to the role. They have been privy to all my emails and communications with all the suppliers for the last 6 months by way of a hand over so they're more than ready to get cracking.

So we have the chance to 'buy a brick' in the new facility being built by GM at the Corvette Museum so we're holding an auction at the gala dinner during the Nationals. Various lots that will include some mint, in the box 1/18th scale Corvettes including one from the Chris Sale collection, one from the Rich Rogers collection, a copy of Nigel's book - Corvette Racing the first 20 years and some GM engineering division original design blue prints which I'll try to get framed before the event. If I get chance I'll post images of all lots for anyone that wants to place a pre-auction bid that cannot be at the auction in person.
