Understood Capt. You carry on your good work, my comment was meant to gee members up to work on their car same as the thread to use this site.

Car is now sitting on the ground but today was problematic. I pushed the outer bearing on the rear spindle only to notice I forgot the seal. Bent bearing pulling it off, luckily had a new spare, then lost the needle rollers out of a new UJ ( previously put uv!) joint so had to use another new one. Oh well. Many thanks to Nick down the M4 for overnighting the bearing shims that was holding me up.

Brightened up the garage with stripes on the decklid then came in for a Lotus biscuit.

Is it original paint?

I keep finding needle rollers from the UJs despite binning them 6 months ago.

Not too sure about today’s cake, I’m quite convinced they give you those Lotus biscuits so they get stuck in your throat and you order another café.

Started stripping the hood this morning, no drama’s just a dig and three stars to sort out. There was three empty mugs in the garage, the paint chippings that came off filled two of them. Then lunch arrived.6FE3779A-95E8-4EA6-85DC-7A3C4AC5F3CF.jpeg649257F5-5961-40C7-A362-8514A2B093E1.jpeg

Nice lunch!
Is that hood specific to a certain power output or was it just on all big blocks?

PS well done with the scraping

Hood is 67 BB (Stinger hood), all the same unless it’s an L-88 that had the air cleaner in the hood same as C3 L-88. Alas the underside of this hood has no air cleaner, it’s plain Jane.

Turned the car round and started made a start on making the car look really ugly. The nose surprisingly has only clear coat, red, gold, primer and a smearing of filler to remove. Blades work well on paint but not so well over filler. Slow job.

What kind of blade is it that you use to scrape off the paint? Is there not a tendency to take gouges out of the body, especially on curved panels or along edges?

The edges are scraped off gingererly at first until it cuts right then just keep it moving in that position which is normally the same way you would use a spokeshave. Yes you can dig into body especially when there is hidden filler. I use a snap on razor handle and the Stanley knife blade equivalent. Using a blade is quicker, cleaner, safer although when finished it gets sanded, filled, keyed as normal.

As if poor photography is not enough I now move in to moving pictures to show the blade in action.

Or not. Is there a way to show a video on here from my iPad or phone??3459CF0B-51ED-45D6-8BBE-6FBA930DDDAC.jpeg
