Build sheet

Can anyone help me please Where or who do I contact to get a build sheet for my ‘86 Corvette? I would like to register it as a historical vehicle for obvious reasons, I have the original tank sticker which is barely legible, so is no good. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi! I presume you mean to register with the DVLA? Does your V5 show the correct date of manufacture?

Unfortunately not, for some reason the V5 has the date of first registration in the UK, which was 1989, but was originally given the registration number of C755 RKA

I'm not surprised - I see this all the time!

I'm not sure a build sheet will be accepted by the DVLA as evidence of age on its own. If you drop me a line at markfceaton[@]gmail.com, I will do my best to help you with this

I don't understand something above guys? Has Ivan spoken to the DVLA before thinking he needs a Build Sheet? The fact that the DVLA gave the car a "C" prefix #plate in 1989 when imported, shows that they knew then the car was a 1986 and presumably still do? "C" prefix is 9/85 -8/86?

Having said the above, I have just checked what it says about my old '85 on the DVLA "Is it taxed/Motd? online enquiry. Mine was registered with a correct age related "B" prefix plate on importation in 8/1988. Enquiring now it says that the year of manufacture was 1988 which is wrong (DVLA Cock-Up?)

Is C755 RKA now on a private/different # plate? DVLA enquiry for it as above, says # plate not recognised?

You would think that such logic would prevail wouldn`t you ? But the DVLA seem to be devoid of all logic ! I had the same issue when my 1980 C3 hit the magic 40th anniversary and had real hassle getting the DVLA to confirm tax exemption despite the fact that they had issued a 1980 `V` registration for the car once it was imported into the UK . Fortunately the importing dealer had given me a letter from Vintage Vehicle Services Inc. in Canada that had documentation on GM products stating the car was produced on or about 19th December 1979 at St. Louis , Missouri , USA . I sent the DVLA a copy and finally received an exemption notice after quite a delay .

Good point! Might well be worth a try. My experience of the DVLA, however, is that anything is possible [or not]. If the date of manufacture is wrong, they are likely to query it and look for confirmation. It is this marker that probably triggers the forty year response. Ivan - you could try phoning them in the first instance and see if they will accept the fact that the "C" prefix reflects the date of manufacture. If not, I will write a letter for you as per our normal club practice. Good luck

Sorry - you are using logic and reason! The DVLA won't accept a dating letter from us as an email - it has to be done on paper, in 2026!!. Sometimes I [and the member whose car it is] have had extreme difficulty getting them to believe us about date of manufacture even when it is patently obvious. To be fair, some of the folk there are very helpful and use common sense but by no means all. It really is often a trial but I do my best to help the member and we usually prevail in the end

I bought a 1971 C3 that had an R plate which was the year of import to the UK. I wanted to get it changed to an age related J plate for 1971 and sent this VIN breakdown together with an explanation to the DVLA and they did it straight away.

Nice, Yes, if you just search on 1986 Corvette ViN #s it will show you websites that list them. As well as that, was wondering if DVLA will accept a EuroCarFax report as mentioned by Adrian (Dromey) for cars from 1981. I've never seen one, but presume it shows the cars build date and/or date of 1st reg in the US?

I have C887 RKA. Build date November 1985.
The build sheet no longer has the date of manufacture on it, I recently enquired.
My V5 has 1986 as date of manufacture, sent off letter from club and photographic evidence of vin number and date of manufacture from data plate 3 weeks ago but had nothing back yet.

As your car was a November 1985 build it would be classed as a 1986 model in the USA and its title would state 1986.

Nice, but I am confused? V5 only shows date 1st registered, not build date does it not? Where's the "data plate" on a '86 showing the build date? Is that the one in the centre glove box? My '85 didn't have one. Not sure if that's because it went missing or only on later cars.

My V5 had the build date as well as the first registered date.
The data plate on the drivers door has the date of manufacture.
