C5 Headlights

More MOT woes all my fault.

I ordered a new Euro spec 2004 C5 Corvette from Germany still with only 3000 miles, it was not until my first MOT with the same MOT tester (see C5 MOT) he told me I had a problem with the headlights, and I would need to fit beam deflectors to pass the MOT.

I did my research and found out because I did not specify UK/Japan T84 headlights which I could as I was specifying my build sheet I got T85 headlights, even all those years ago when they were available from GM they were £1000 each ouch.

I did not rush to buy them, a few years later someone had some very bad luck which turned into my good luck.
This C5 owner was having extensive C5 mods done and on a test drive his car was written of, at this stage the car had no headlights fitted.
I found them from this owner online for £240 the pair, I made a cheeky offer of £200 which he turned down :ROFLMAO: I paid the full amount, even then they were as rare as Hen’s teeth.

I doubt I will ever drive my car in Europe.
I now have a very large 2 car garage so why not fit the T84 headlights it’s about time.

Can anyone find a Youtube link to just replacing the headlights, I thought I had but did not saved it.
All I can find is either changing the bulbs, replacing the plastic wheel that lifts the headlights which often breaks and replacing it with a brass wheel, plus removing the whole light housing, I don’t think it should be that hard to replace, surely occasionally they get broken from stones.

Any help would be great.

Thank you,

Michael.

Thank you again teamzr1 very helpful.

Your profile says you are a supporting vendor in what way out of interest.

Still would like a youtube video if one is out there.

Hi Michael
I may be wrong but I believe the T85 headlights are for UK use and the T 84 are for Europe. Don't want you to fit the incorrect ones.
I changed mine to T85's and it is a relatively easy process and I did mine with no instructions. The only thing I would suggest is to not overtighten the screws that hold the headlight unit to the frame as these could easily be stripped.

Thank you Bob

No fool like an old fool I have no idea how I got the numbers the wrong way around, it clearly shows on Google search.
To be 100% sure I looked at my laminated build sheet purchased from the National Corvette Museum hanging in my garage and it shows EXP T84 headlights, although EXP T85 headlights is what I should have ordered.

Thank you Chevrolet.

I think even a fool like me should be able to change the headlights with that video help.
I am not too bad with the spanners on older cars, with a little technical help from a friend I rewired my TR6, on my own I replaced all the clutch hydraulics, same with the brakes except for the servo and hard brake lines, rebuilt the pedal box and clutch plate position so definitely setting myself up for a fall. :)

Hi Peter I would love to, I don't think I can afford a C8, I have just paid £615,000.00 for a very large new double garage which a C8 would fit in, I also got a free 4 bedroom detached house to go with the garage  plus even at 70 I have no idea how much the insurance would be.

Not open yet.

Hi
I have since 1995 doing custom tuning of the engine and tranny controllers
For those looking for better performance of stock GM vehicles, also when owners do mods like CAMs, porting, larger fuel injectors, adding boost, etc
Also I tune the auto tranny for quicker, firmer shifts, higher RPM & MPH shifts, allowing more torque, make changes when wheels, tires or rear end gear has been changed
and that then requires tuning the GM calibrations, so those changes work correctly while increasing the HP and Tq.

That was similar to when I bought my house - I was buying a large double garage with a free detached house to go with it.

Haha! Your garage looks almost identical to mine. This is my garage on the first day I bought the garage (with house on site included :ROFLMAO: ). Like yours, its changed over the years - has a ceiling in it with lots of big led lights, and boarded on top to store stuff, more electrical sockets, concrete floor sealed, and a double glazed back door so the garage can be accessed from the garden.

Hi CaptainK I moved into my new house on 14/02/25, I was a 69 year old retired carpenter now 70.

As you can see my garage although the photo is a generic estate agent photo, came with just one double socket, so within 12 weeks I fitted 8 double sockets one in the loft space, raised the 2 LED strip lights into the loft space, fully trunked the whole garage to include 6 pendent lights, and by far the hardest job of all cut and fit 33 sheets of
600 x 2400 x18 T&G flooring around the Gang Nailed Trusses to include a 550 x 1300 hinged loft hatch.

Gang Nailed Trusses are not designed to take downward loads on the floor joists, so the only heavy stuff I have which is not much, is at the end of Trusses sitting on the wall plates.

I recently supplied and fitted a £20,000.00 plus fitted kitchen in my daughter’s new house, now my brother and I factory has gone, I needed a top of the range double compound Dewalt 305mm mitre saw to cut the deep Cornice, plus I could do so much more.

At the back of my garage you can see a 6000 x 1100 workbench just for my mitre saw. When I worked I would have died for a bench that size, to the right you can see the bench I used for 40/50 odd years.

Outstanding work sir. I got my garage in 2020, and did the work afterwards. Like you, up in the loft I don't have much up there, but most of it is on the outer bits by the walls. The only stuff I have in the middle are bulky things that are really light - like cat carrying boxes and spare litter trays etc.

I am impressed by the sound of your loft hatch - it embarrassingly reminds me that I still haven't made my loft hatches yet - I've just got some holes around the loft space so I can access the bits I want. One day, when I'm not busy.... :ROFLMAO:

CaptianK I think you call this showing off, I even have good hatch/door gaps. :ROFLMAO:
For an old man hanging this18mm loft hatch on my own was hard work.
Get over the embarrassment and get the job done. :ROFLMAO: Easy for me to say being a retired carpenter. :)
