C5 Light Switch Buzz

Hi all,

I would be grateful for any insights on a buzzing noise from steering column area when lights are switched on. Discovered on a 200 mile journey away from home this morning! Thought I could smell hot plastic so switched off quickly....

Thanks

Mark

Mark you need to expand on this to be able to debug
You state it only happens when lights are switched on

Does that mean as long as they are on this buzzing is non-stop or only at the time when the light switch is turn on ?

Sometimes happens is within the turnsignal/wipers/light stalk

Let me open one up . . . .

This is what yours looks like

When opened up there is a lot of contacts you see and if some issue those contacts keep opening and closing
Try to isolate exactly where buzzing is coming from, maybe wrap a towel around stalk and see if noise is less

Thanks John. Noise is audible when switch is open and lights are on. Stops when switch closed/ lights off. Doesn't seem to matter which lights....

Can you try key on, engine off as that will let you move around low and turn light on / off and see if you can pinpoint closer
to where the sound is coming from ?

When turning lights on are all outside lights on and same for turn signals,
do the windshield wipers work ?

Does your C5 have the option that allows the column to be extended or moved inward and tilt of steering wheel
and if so any changes when light switch is on ?
