C7 Final Additions

I've yet to have the pleasure of driving a C7, but certainly keen to rectify that and perhaps own one.
This or Long Beach Red Metallic Tintcoat would be very nice.(y)

I noticed that another article dealing with the "Final Editions" speculated that it marked not only the final C7 in Europe, but the final Corvette.......

Given GM's total failure to market the car over here that would not be surprising. The sad thing si that even with no marketing, GM has still managed to build a real following for the later Corvettes and our local dealer in Tours shifts 100s each year!

Looks like the ultimate C7 - going for one norm?
Not likely, I believe my '16 Z will be the last for me, that's more car than I need now. No more track, no hot doggin', I'm just a retired out to pasture waxer now. :)

It's the final Corvette for Europe, till 2021. As the present Camaro and Corvette have only permission till August 2019, to import the cars without the new WLTP test.

Following on from what Jonny says above re the WLTP, Craig at Ian Allan (woody2846) saying in here that they have only have 13 new C7s available due to the WLTP.
Is this the end for official import UK/Euro spec Corvettes then, including the revised front engined C7 that I read will be produced alongside the C8?

C7's a rare beast? - Page 1 - Corvettes - PistonHeads

It is, other models have the same problem. I even received the rumour that the new Cadillac CT5 isn't coming to Europe at the moment.

I suspect that the EU is using the "Emissions" old chestnut :D once again, this time as a bit of "protectionism". The premise that cars are damaging has long ago been proven inaccurate, but no one cares! But, its a handy way to stop US imports. As far as GM and Corvette are concerned, I doubt they worry too much. As Is aid aboave, they are not interested in teh European (or foreign) market really. Witness Doug a repeated reasoning for not doing the WEC.....

The car market here is too little for them and too many rules. I see that Fiat-Chrysler is rushing there Jeep and Dodge Pick-up models through the WLTP ruling, just to keep them on sale here. They try to invest in it, but with what result in the end.

I see with Opel/Vauxhall that many good engines are being downsides for the "environment", but getting more power out of smaller engine displacement, is just the opposite way of doing it.

Speaking with Ian Hurle, DP of IAM and he mentioned that the 'final' Vettes and Camaro's about to come over would be UK compliant - was this a verbal 'typo' - in as much as they would be EU compliant (and sourced from European 'stock') rather than UK specific vehicles...........would there be a difference (if in fact this was correct?)

As far as I know, and Jonny can no doubt confirm or otherwise, the only difference between a UK and mainland Europe spec car, is that the UK car has specific UK spec (front) lights. Whether they actually dip to the left, I do not know. John Stow, the Service Manager at IA, confirmed to me that a UK car has UK specific lights (like the C6) last year when I was over there, after he made a call to someone at presumably GM Europe (?).

I don't know if you still get a Certificate of Conformity (CoC), when you buy a new C7, but if its like the C6 days, the CoC will state which "rule of road" the car is certified for. On my Dutch language CoC for my mainland Europe C6, it states that the car is certified for "right hand" rule of road (i.e. drive on the right).

There is a difference with the headlights of C6 and C7. UK spec is a different order code, than with us here in Belgium. One other point is, the fog light in the bag, which is on the other side for the U.K.

Currently most of the present cars in stock are mostly mainland Camaro, at the docks in Zeebrugge (B). They hope to sell it soon and these cars are excluded by the WLTP ruling currently.

I'm not a Pistonheads fan and the first paragraph of this piece exemplifies why! Whatever good they tried to say was counteracted by outdated un original stereotypes, not relevant to the C7.

Unfortunately, due to the mortoring press in the UK being so reluctant to ever feature Corvettes, old or new, this sort of article is what any GM person who botheres, will read. And, it no doubt has a bearing on whether they think its worth bring the Corvette to this side of the Atlantic.

With all due respect to GM - adverse historical comments about the Corvette from journalists over the years must have had a beneficial effect on GM's back room staff because the Corvette is now (and has been for several years) arguably the best performing/handling car in its class (and for the money) - the real issue is with the blinkered myopic journalists who think the only worthwhile performance cars come out of Germany. And for that matter the equally blinkered car buying public with the same ignorant mindset. As for marketing the Corvette in the UK.....well, not to put too fine a point on it - GM UK/Europe didn't have a clue as to what the UK market wanted. I recall GM's half baked launch of the C6 ZR1 at the Fairmile and speaking with GM's guy responsible for the UK's version......chrome alloy wheels on a red car......I mean what did GM think.....all potential buyers would wear Stetson's and cowboy boots.......so many years of mis-marketing.....
If you want to good at good subtle marketing look for further than the Ford Mustang. Introduced to the UK at a sub £38K price for a V8 coupe it's really created a credible alternative to the German vehicles......try buying a new sub £38K one now though.....even the 4 banger is more expensive than that!
