Clutch Cross Shaft Pivot Stud to Engine

Hi. I've been taking up some of the slack in the clutch cross shaft linkage ("70 C3) and noticed the shaft to engine pivot stud is loose. I can nip it up but it then becomes slack when pressure applied. I guess the threads in the engine block are worn. I've measured my replacement stud and it looks like 1/2"-13 UNC.

Is this common? Has anybody fitted helicoils?

Rather a shallow tapping to drill out for a helicoil. What about chemical metal or similar? - could you get access to drill oversize?

Is the thread worn on pivot stud? Meaning with a new stud thread would it hold tighter? Or if no one is looking PTFE tape.
