RAC finally turned up at 7pm with the right truck. Eventually got home at 3am.

Have tracked down the culprit for my early finish. The snapped off connector on the right is why the security system wasn't recognising the resistor in my key.

7pm?! Didn't you first call them at about 11am? I'd be putting in some serous complaints.

Just grateful to have gotten home. Unfortunately the RAC managed to send the wrong truck not once, but twice. If only I'd known what I do now - if I'd wrapped the resistors on the key in tinfoil to ensure a connection with the broken connector, that would probably have been enough to shut off the anti-theft system and get me home. Live and learn!
