“You can run, but you can’t hide.”

That’s what Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police (CMPD) posted Wednesday to announce they seized a 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 after hitting a patrol car and taunting police.
CMPD says its Operation SCARLET (Stolen Car and Recovery Law Enforcement Team) started looking into a possibly stolen or cloned Chevrolet Corvette Z06 that had fled from traffic stops multiple times in the Char-Meck area.

SCARLET detectives found the owner’s identity and a social media account with video of the vehicle speeding away from officers. It was determined that the car was not stolen.
On March 28, officers found the Corvette and the driver, 21-year-old Carlos Clark, tried to run a traffic stop. The vehicle intentionally hit a CMPD patrol vehicle and sped off, according to authorities.

“Very few people have these fast cars even though many would want them,” said Dr. Sara Levens, a psychologist and associate professor at UNC Charlotte.
Clark was arrested that day, and his home was searched with a warrant.
At the home, detectives say they found and seized the following:

  • 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
  • 113.4 pounds of THC vials
  • 10 pounds of THC edibles
  • 3.6 pounds of Belgian chocolate bars containing mushrooms
  • 18.8 pounds of pre-rolled marijuana blunts
  • 4 pounds of marijuana resin
  • 3.6 pounds of Mushrooms
  • 4 firearms: a AK-47, 2 AR-15s and a Glock
  • $1,950.56 in cash
Clark has quite the following on Instagram, where has more than 292,000 followers. He posts videos driving his fast car going off the shoulder, swerving through traffic and into construction lanes.
Some of the videos show him riding beside police and then speeding away, posting things like, “cruising with my buddy,” referencing police.

“This is the thrill and it’s not thrilling unless other people are seeing you take all of the chances, and why this is happening on social media is being a part of that shared experience, being in the know,” said Levens.
Clark is facing several charges, including felony flee and elude arrest, reckless driving and hit and run.

Levens explains what makes people want to watch Clark’s social media videos. One of them on TikTok has 1.5 million views.
“Watching it they can experience many of those things without any of the risk factors involved in sort of getting caught or anything like that,” said Dr. Levens.

Clark is facing several charges:

  • Felony Flee/Elude Arrest with Motor Vehicle
  • Hit/Run Property Damage
  • Reckless Driving
  • Assault with Deadly Weapon
  • Resisting Public Officer
  • Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Distribute
  • Alter/Steal/Destroy Criminal Evidence
  • Possess Drug Paraphernalia
  • Possess Marijuana Paraphernalia
  • Trafficking Marijuana
Clark was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail around 5:15 a.m. the next morning. That same day, he paid just a $20,000 secured bond and was released.
Jail records show this isn’t the first time Clark was arrested.
Cornelius Police charged him last May with driving while his license was revoked and fleeing and eluding arrest with a motor vehicle.

This time the gangbangers stole the C8, the trailer and the pickup :(

A neighbor’s security camera captured a California man’s pickup and Corvette racecar driving away from his home in the early morning hours of Easter Sunday, heisted by unknown parties.

Now Simon Fry and his family are offering a $2,500 reward for the return of their white 2008 Corvette with a black hood and the number 75 written on the side, as well as their white 1999 Ford F250 and a black car trailer.

The vehicles have more than the usual value to the Fry family.

He had poured hours of hard work into the Corvette, but the pickup had been passed down to Fry’s father, who died from a heart attack in 2020, leaving it to Fry.
“The truck’s way more sentimental for our family and the trailer that the car was on,” he explained to ABC10 News. “My dad and I had built it over a few years.”

Parking the vehicles for the first time in front of his home after a race, Fry woke up Easter Sunday morning to find the vehicles missing. “It was pretty rough,” he said. “It was really shocking. Definitely did not expect that.”

Now, the family is hoping a reward will help them get the vehicles back.
“We are offering a reward if we find the vehicle in good condition or get information that leads to finding it,” said Fry, calling on whoever did it to do the right thing. “Take the reward, return it. It means a lot to the family.”

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the dispatch center of the Sacramento Police Department at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP (4357). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward. Anonymous tips can also be offered.
