my 1999 Corvette c5 convertible has gearbox problems.its a four speed automatic i had a gearbox specialist look at it and they said the gearbox oil was low and burnt smelling.they topped the oil up and drove it for 3 miles it had no drive in 3rd gear only slight drive in 4th with more than full throttle. They said they couldn’t fix it as they don’t have spares for American cars. Can anyone recommend a gearbox repair garage that can help me.i based in the Newcastle northeast of England. Any help would be much appreciated.

It is crucial to regularly check auto trans fluid levels by the correct procedure described in owners hand book . Low levels soon cause damage and slipping of the clutches , generating heat and burning the trans fluid hence the smell . Over filling can be just as harmful too .Topping up once the damage is done will not improve things . Sounds like a complete rebuild with new torque converter will be needed unfortunately . Sorry I can`t help with recommendations as I am in the East Midlands . I am sure someone on the forum may come up with something . Try internet search for American car specialists in your area , there must be some in the North East .
