I did a lot of work on the following as to issues that can happen with C5 and C6 clutch systems and the amount of
work needed to replace the clutch or when needing to take either type of tranny out

Due to all the content, read these :

That clutch issue seemed to plague a buddy when he had his C5Z06 LE Procharged car a few years ago.

The design problem is due to the slave that GM decided to use

The bottom half is metal and top part is made of plastic
Looking closely can see the wear marks of the top/bearing half cocks and jams on to the metal stem
The spring has few coils and once the plastic deforms and jams the coil spring no longer properly allows the bearing to fit flat to the fingers of the pressure plate and at higher RPM shifts prevents the design to allow the bearing to properly push inwards to allow the clutch pedal to return upward

As shown in the red paint I put shows how the plastic has worn grooves into the stem, thus whole bearing cocks and jams
This also causes the grease packing to get overheated and leaks out which causes the bearing to flop around further causing the bearing to no longer sitting flat against the fingers of pressure plate

In the end, there is no longer proper inward movement to cause the clutch fluid pressure to push clutch pedal back to upward position and forces driver to use top of foot under the pedal and force pedal up
