Import costs on parts from USA

Hello all
I have found the exhaust I want for my C4 but it's in the USA. Please can someone help me understand the on top costs I am going to get when the exhaust lands in the UK.
Thanks
Mike

You'll have to pay VAT at 20% on the parts and shipping cost, plus I believe it's 4.5% import duty and probably a handling fee for the courier (£15 last time I paid it)

Can`t you find one in the UK that fits the bill and save all the tax and duties . Plus you support UK companies .

Dont even bother to look for a OEM styled exhaust in the UK.....just go to a yank exhaust specialist and have them make a system for you......it can be as loud as you like (if that does 'it' for you)

I always found pipecraft to do a excellent job. You can always get your factory tips put on it for the factory look.

Yep - I and many other yank owners in East London/Essex have used them over the years.......there is also Haywood and Scott in the same industrial area at Basildon. H & S specifically build custom stainless steel headers and exhaust systems for race, vintage and street vehicles. They made 3" system from the collector back for my '68. There is also Flowtech at Chadwell Heath who specialise in custom systems.
A lot of who you take your car to will depend on how close they are are to you when driving there on open headers!

Another vote for having one built, when I was looking a few years ago it was basically the same cost as importing one. Now I'd say it'd almost always be more expensive shipping one over unless you pick up a second hand one and get someone to ship it in a container they already have coming over, even then I doubt you'd save much!

Another plus point is if you have any problems you are dealing with a supplier in the UK and not the other side of the world .

Thanks for all the replies.
I really want the Corsa system for the C4 but they are expensive. I have had a couple of quotes for custom systems, the highest came out at 3200, the cheapest at 1600. The Corsa exhaust is coming out at 2600 all in. I am mulling things over and won't rush into anything.
