Indicators !

Hi all
the indicators on my 75 coupe seem very dim and flash somewhat hesitantly, the indicator is the inner red portion of the brake light,I had always presumed the previous owner had carried out the appropriate conversion for British roads.But I am no expert and the headlights are some sort of new fangled lense with two circular filliments,!! And they flash along with the indicators though only the main beam works.Yep I know what you must be thinking O M G I am thinking of replacing the front headlights with standard lights,anybody care to hazard a thought on any of this please.

I’d guess those front lights have LEDs and they may not have the required resistance to allow the flasher unit to operate correctly.

That's pretty weird, as the headlights are a separate circuit to the indicators, they do share a common ground though. Do the headlights only flash with the indicators when the headlights are switched on, or do they do it even when they are switched off? Does the dip beam not work at all, or only when the indicators are flashing?

I was thinking they’re like these where the indicator is built in to the headlight.

I was thinking about that oneball but not being versed in car electrics I wasn’t sure the headlights seem to be in perfect time with the flashers Johng when the headlights are switched on and indicator switch on.The headlight main beam is the only one that comes on, question! Could this be something to do with foot operated dip switch

Don't know roo much about led replacement lamps/bulbs.......except for the seemingly essential need to use a specific flasher unit (presumably two, the other being for hazards)

If the dip beam never comes on then it's likely to be either the dip switch or the cable from the dip switch to the headlights.

On the headlights flashing with the indicators, I would first make sure you have a good earth connection. Assuming a 76 is the same as a 78, there are 3 earth points for the headlights and indicators as shown below. (front of left front fender skirt, centre of front fender support and alternator earth) I'd clean up all 3.
