What is the reason the UK requires even more lights in the ass end ?
Aren't the 5 stock lights good enough ?

The big red rear fog lamps are standard on models sold new in the UK. Imported Vettes have to add one. :sneaky:
I personally prefer the smaller US rear plate holder with reversing lamps incorporated, but I have the original UK version which can be easily refitted.

Since 1982 ( I think, memories going) we have to have a rear fog light.
Used to bolt one on the underside of the bumper

Lots of Yanks were converted to yellow flashers by using the factory reversing lights with a yellow bulb.
A external reversing light was then sometimes fitted under the rear bumper.

Does it bark when it drives by :)
Was that 2L and no boost ?

So a C5 required 5 ass end lights to be legal, but that car only has 2 lights
but adding 1 bicycle light than its legal :ROFLMAO:

No boost in those days.
Rear fog lights are very practical in ( dare I say) Fog.
Always surprised me US vehicles never had them. You Do get fog there. I’ve driven in many northern states that get it. So much easier when you can see or at least know where the car in front is.
See and be seen, makes good sense.

I cannot recall having to drive through fog in many years, do not think fog is common for many areas
There was a time law stated when vehicles started that auto lights on even in daylight but no longer required
though the low front riding and side lights come on

There was a time over here when you had to disconnect the DRL ( daytime running lights) to get your imported car through the necessary test to allow the car to be registered here.

FYI
Starting with the C5s
If having the parking brake fully on and starting the engine, the BCM will not command the DRLs to come on while at idle

Owners manual :

Exterior Lamps Daytime Running Lamps / Automatic Headlamp Control (Optional)
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) can make it easier for others to see the front of your vehicle during the day.
DRL can be helpful in many different driving conditions, but they can be especially helpful in the short periods after dawn and before sunset.

A light sensor on top of the instrument panel makes the Automatic Headlamp Control (if equipped) work, so be sure it isn’t covered.
The DRL/Automatic Headlamp Control system will make the front turn signal lamps come on when:

_ the ignition is on,
_ the headlamp switch is off and
_ the parking brake is released.

When the DRL are on, only the front turn signal lamps will be on.
The headlamps, taillamps, sidemarker and other lamps won’t be on. Your instrument panel won’t be lit up either.

When it’s dark enough outside, the front turn signal lamps will turn off and the headlamps and parking lamps will turn on. The other lamps that come on with the headlamps will also come on.
When it’s bright enough outside, the headlamps will go off and the front turn signal lamps will come on.

To idle the vehicle with the DRL off, set the parking brake while the ignition is in OFF or LOCK.
Then start the vehicle. The DRL, headlamps and parking lamps will stay off until you release the parking brake.

The Automatic Headlamp Control feature can be turned on or off, except for vehicles first sold in Canada.
See “Driver Information Center (DIC)” in the Index to turn this feature on or off (if equipped with the Automatic Headlamp Control feature).
As with any vehicle, you should turn on the regular headlamp system when you need it.

The powers that be also didn’t the high level brake light on trucks. Bulbs were taken out before testing. OK now, but there was a time.

Considering how pathetic the performance of most UK/European 4 banger cars of the day was how popular they were. The Pinto OHC 2 litre lump in the Cortina's and the RS 2000 Ford Escort could actually perform way above its size when fitted with cam, quad webbers and exhaust.
Local guy to us here Daren has been modifying his early RS Escort for many years - has turbo'd Cosworth YB engine and (if I've got this right a torque converter feeding a BMW 8 speed auto box. This street driven car has been laying down sub 10 second quarters for a couple of years now.

My friends older brother had a 1300GT ( Mk1 escort) we thought it was so cool. It was black with gold prismatic stripes, and wolf race wheels.
