Overheating

On the subject of cooling - anyone also experiencing 'difficulties' sourcing 'old school' coolant/antifreeze for their C3 (or C1 and C2 for that matter. Notice how manufacturers and supplier now give them confusing names and descriptions? - I simply want traditional an ethylene glycol based fluid so why is it now described as silicate based and IAT based (Inorganic Additive Technology)? but can be used with all metals. It's considered harmful to the environment. The newer OAT (Organic Acid Technology) based coolants are good for engines with ally components but not anything with brass or copper components (so can't use that) doesn't sound too environmentally healthy either. Anyway after considerable searching it seems that Prestone antifreeze is the stuff to go for and generally cheaper than all the fancy name ones (managed to find just one container locally at £17 for 4 litres of concentrated). Why is it such a challenge to find - reminds me how difficult it is to find mineral oil with ZDDP from local auto spares shops. What is really disappointing is the 'new' breed of assistant in the auto spares shop - much like we see in Halfords they know FA about the cars, the applications and what they are selling and even what it does. Ask for Ethylene Glycol coolant or oil with ZDDP and you're looked at with a glazed look............
