Pistons & Rings

I thought this might be of interest to members in the Northamptonshire and Warwickshire areas ( over further afield ) . Yet another new classic car and bike show outfit called Pistons & Rings has recently started up and uses the very smart looking Sky Lark Country venue on Shuckborough Road , Staverton near Daventry , Northamptonshire . They have regular themed meets and Saturday 16th August is an all American ` Stars & Stripes ` meet . Entry is free which is a rare thing these days . Food available too . See their website for further info . Not far from me so worth a punt that day . welcome-website-page-.jpg

This is only a few miles down the road from me. I popped over early on opening evening but it was still pretty quiet at that point. It apparently got quite busy later on though and has been relatively busy at weekends since.
The owner is a bit of a Porsche man (owns a Cayman GT4) so I expect he has a lot of Porsche contacts. Porsche Silverstone were there with a little display on opening day too.
The actual venue doesn’t have anything to see per se (unlike Gasoline Juice, Gilks and Caffeine & Machine, which are all close by), but the views over the Daventry Hills are nice. I can definitely think of worst places to be on a lovely summers evening 👍

I have only just found out about the place and certainly never spotted the gated entrance when driving along that road before so obviously very new . As you say , there are fine views across the Leam valley with Catesby Viaduct on the long closed London extension of the old Great Central Railway in the middle distance and beyond to Catesby Hall if you know where to look . That was where the Gun Powder Plot was planned by Guy Fawkes and his buddies . Your C3 looking stunning by the way . (y)

Thanks Mike 👍

The entrance was already there, albeit with slightly less signage. There’s a wedding hire venue called Skylarks on the same site, which was a little cafe prior to that.

Yes, being fairly local to the area, I know all about the Catesby (and Ashby St. Ledgers) links to the gunpowder plot!

Did you know that they’ve now converted the Catesby tunnel into a vehicle development test facility?

Yes , I knew it has been a wind tunnel and test facility for some time . An impressive use of the tunnel . So many magnificent structures on the route of the Great Central Railway still exist as the Victorians always built things to last . I walked as much of the route as possible back in the 1980`s from the site of Finmere Station up to Braunston & Willoughby looking for relics of the past and taking photos . Had to Catesby Tunnel.jpg9F at catesby.jpgdivert via fields and country lanes over the tunnel though and can remember going to Charwelton and watching steam hauled trains coming out the tunnel . Happy days !
