Hi all
i need to push my 76 auto approximately 10 yards (engine won’t fire) can I do this with assistance and are there any things I need to do first apart from select neutral and hand brake off
so I don’t damage anything

Transmission in neutral and hope that A. Brake discs are 'clean' and free from any surface rust/not locked-on B. Parking brake not adjusted too 'tight' (unlikely)....then push like a bstard!

I've historically tended to to push my '68 BB backwards out of the garage about 25 foot to the pavement when on an 'early' before an 'early' pre 9am run out to keep the peace with the next door neighbour. They've gone now and the new neighbour is a petrolhead (as is the neighbour the other side) and the one directly opposite too. Perhaps now it's time for a set of Hooker or Doug's side pipes?

I would push mine out of the garage (sidepipe equipped!) when washing or doing other stuff to the car etc. Alas, my driveway slopes down to the garage, so I can't push it any further than about 2 feet from where it sits in the garage - aka when the front wheels get to the bottom of the slope. I should add that mine is a manual 4 speed.

So its engine fire up whenever I need to just wash the car. Granted I don't do it that often, because I hate washing cars. Yeah I said it, I hate washing cars.

I went through a phase where I had to take one of my C2's out of the garage to get the ride on mower out and I made the mistake of just firing it up, moved it outside then handed the mower over to the wife while the car sat leeching fuel from the bowl into the cylinders developing a back fire when next used. Now if I have to repeat that process I leave the car idling to get up to temperature to help burn the fuel off.

I love washing cars :)

My car washing process:
  • Start car in garage.
  • Move car out and close garage door.
  • Drive car around for a bit to have some fun on the country roads.
  • Maybe entertain the locals with a few throttle blips at their request.
  • Park up on driveway and car is now dirtier.
  • Agonise over whether I really have to clean it or not.
  • When done, either way, roll car back into garage courtesy of the slope down to the garage.
  • Next time I drive the car swear a lot as I washed the car, put it away dry, but obviously the water got onto the brakes and they are a bit unhappy.
  • Drive it around and soon frees up, but I remember that I hate washing cars.
