After 2 1/2 years of non stop planning & touring with a rock group, this year on July 4th, to celebrate America's birthday, I finally got to do something special for me, something REAL special! ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘

Independence Day saw me fly half way across America to pick up my new purchase! ๐Ÿ˜Š

My fabulous new addition is this stunning C6 Z16 Grand Sport 3LT.

Over the holiday weekend, I drove it 900 fantastic miles through five States, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and back into Texas to my base! โ›ฝ

Absolutely beyond blessed to now have these two beauties in my Corvette Corral! ๐Ÿ™

Many new Corvette adventures to come, the next being attending the massive Corvette Invasion event!

God bless America & happy birthday!

Great car, and a great drive. Done that route a couple of times, Atlanta to Galveston with stops in Mobile AL and New Orleans LA. Not in a corvette tho.
Enjoy your new addition.

Thank you!
The freeways were actually pretty scenic and of course, mostly unoccupied, but Sunday I took to more of the back roads with beautiful countryside and some amazing ranches.

As it was the holiday weekend, there were endless Cops out especially in Alabama & Mississippi. There were several intense road blocks with a dozen or more police cars semi-blocking the road, either waiting on someone's arrival or dealing with a situation - never seen so many, so I played safe and just locked on autocruise much of the time.

I already have a couple of 2000 - 3000 mile trips planned in-between my work that will include scenic stops and photo ops, so looking forward to those!

All nice, possibly will the exception of the side tint. While looking very nice itโ€™s probably not legal in most states, and certainly not in the UK if you were thinking of bringing it over.
Wonโ€™t need an IVA as over 10 years old, so only a MOT. Do MOTโ€™s cover tints? If not , could be left on until your stopped and told to remove it.
My young nephews would call it โ€œwickedโ€ or words to that effect.

Cops here in Texas do not like a vehicle with heavy tint, as they cannot see those inside the vehicle
Surprised car would pass the required safety inspections here.

Wouldnโ€™t go down well in Atlanta area or south Florida for the same reasons. Cops like to see the driver. Same in the UK as a vehicle has to let a certain amount of light into the inside front . They use a light meter to test it. Not sure what the amount is, but itโ€™s pretty high so front tints are not very dark. ( legally that is)

In Texas, the legal limit for window tint on front side windows is 25% Visible Light Transmission (VLT), meaning at least 25% of light must pass through. Rear windows can have any darkness, but both side mirrors are required if the rear window is tinted darker than 25% VLT.

Texas Window Tint Laws Overview

Texas window tint laws regulate how dark and reflective window tints can be on vehicles.
These laws were established in 2009 and have specific requirements for different types of vehicles.

Legal Tint Darkness

Sedans

Window TypeMaximum VLT (%)Reflection Limit (%)
Windshield25% (top 5 inches)< 25%
Front Side Windows> 25%< 25%
Rear WindowAny darknessN/A

SUVs and Vans

Window TypeMaximum VLT (%)Reflection Limit (%)
Windshield25% (top 5 inches)< 25%
Front Side Windows> 25%< 25%
Rear WindowAny darknessN/A

Additional Regulations

  • Side Mirrors: If the rear window is tinted, dual side mirrors are required.
  • Restricted Colors: Red, blue, and amber tints are illegal.
  • Certification: A certificate of compliance must be provided by the tint shop.
  • Sticker Requirement: A tint certification sticker must be placed on the driverโ€™s side window.

Thanks gents.
Interesting comments and feedback on the tint, which may indeed not be legal. ๐Ÿค”

That said, the car was indeed from Georgia, having been there for many years with only 3 owners.

No idea of course when the tint was added...but a Chevy dealer sold it that way without any warning?!

Additionally, as mentioned I must have passed 50-60 police vehicles in day light on the way home on days when they were out hunting post July 4th.

I'll certainly seek local advice though - thanks again. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘

Ironically, I already know most Corvette owners down this way run without a front license plate, which one would expect is more of an issue than the tint as two are required here in Texas.

Having asked that specific question and having had dozens of replies about it on a local thread, only 2-3 had ever been stopped over the one plate? ๐Ÿค”

I personally plan to run a front plate, but have just ordered one that is on a removable system for shows or for when outside of Texas etc.

No plans to bring it to the UK at this time.
