A beautiful evening today for a quick blast up the A5 to the first Monday evening gathering of the season of the Long Buckby & District Classic car Club hosted on the hallowed turf of Long Buckby Rugby Club . Over 60 cars turned up to the free to enter meeting and chicken & chips in the club house for £5 if so desired .
An eclectic mix of cars that had to be at least 25 years old . All manner of rarities from a Gogomobile micro car through to a Type 57 Bugatti with a real patina , a one family owned pre HE Jaguar XJS V12 , an Offenhauser twin Quadrajet powered special that must be hell on wheels to drive , a stunning Chevy Impala and a Mustang GT350 . Plus one of my old work colleagues concourse MK 2 Lotus Cortina he`s owned for 36 years . Not to mention a few Cobras too .
Then it was a great blast home on a very quiet A5 with the sun going down and the cool moist laden country air making the Vette run like a dream . 😁

29 Degrees C today and not a cloud in the sky so took my better half who is currently recuperating from frozen shoulder treatment out in the Vette for a canal side Brunch in the gardens of the Navigation Inn at Cosgrove . Sitting under a parasol by the water was just fab and the best we can manage living as far as is possible in the UK from the sea ! Stopped off at local news agent on the way back to pick up this weeks copy of Classic Car Weekly to see if LDV got its 5 minutes of fame in the press coverage of last Sundays Bicester Scramble . :D

Italian Car day at Brooklands today. Plenty of boring red Ferraris about. Nice Maserati Gran Turismo with 22" aftermarket wheels on it looked great.

No, It was "Italian" Car Day after all? You should of tried driving into the main "Italian car only" entrance to get onto the central display area ? The stewards on the entrance might not have noticed, especially if you have a red one? :p Or dropped them a "Fiver"?

The very friendly owner who appreciated me admiring his car and the "22s" said he was from Essex, and they like a bit of "Bling" in Essex, including his illegal OTT extra smoked windows. Said if he sees a cop car about he puts the windows down until they have gone.

Hi everyone, today I signed up as a new member of your wonderful club! So I'll give a bit of a back story of how I have recently come to own my first Corvette. I recently lost my dad to lung cancer, we are a family of petrol heads and he had the fortune to own and drive many fantastic cars over the years but sadly he passed away before ever owning two of his favourites...a Lamborghini or a Corvette. Years ago he was going to buy a C4 pace car edition from the Dick Van Dyke collection auction, a car we weren't there to buy but my dad was smitten with and I as a terrible son told him not to buy it as we hadn't had a chance to research it and I felt it was too impulsive for a car that had sat in a dutch museum for years. And while he drove several Lamborghinis I don't have any memories of him ever driving a 'Vette...and so...I knew I wanted to get a sports car as he would have loved that when he passed away. My dad was called Peter and his family were from South Wales, I bought my C5 from a wonderful former member on here (VIDPME ) called Peter from South Wales and while not a C4 it ticks more boxes for me personally. I was looking at various Porsches, Astons, TVRs, and a Ferrari 360 through work which was too cheap to be true! It is booked in on 13th May to get some paint work done, I have a family member flying into the UK for a holiday from their current home in Atlanta GA with some new badges front and rear and a few other decorative parts, it will go to my friends garage for a once over before I drive it to Le Mans in June which I do every year, formerly with my dad, now with my best mate! I used to have a build thread on my last car on their forum and look forward to doing the same here too. Bit of a long post, so I'll shut up now!

Welcome to 72 years of Corvette racing history
It has been a fighter from day one and find most owners are hardcore to the Corvette

Myself have non-stop owned 10 Corvettes since 1975 which I wrenched on and raced all of them
including my 1999 C5

What year is your C5 ?

Mine is a 2004 which was imported to the UK 2005, though I understand it spent some time in Spain too. I have always loved the Corvettes too...some real early memories too. Le Mans is where it all blossomed for me really. I love the tech too, from the magnetic dampers, to the HUD, electric steering column, but most of all as a child of the 70's its the last car with pop up lights! They're awful at night, but just amazing at anything apart from lighting up the road!

Welcome to the club and forum. Not quite 'new' enough to be a C6 but hving most of the 'tech' you'll see on a C6, and with its own style where are still some good buys available for C5's. Like C6's a C5 in white is an unusual colour to see - I think it enables one to see the cars shape and style without being distracted by a flamboyant metallic body colour.

I do really like the white, hopefully I can get a good colour match when it goes in to the bodyshop at work! The tech for a 99-04 car is fab. I am sitting in my company car, a 2024 Tiguan R that doesn't have HUD, adjustable dampers, and a manual steering column too!

I live in Birchanger on the Herts/Essex border. Closest landmark that people have heard of is Stansted Airport. I'd love to get involved in some of the local meets, but am happy to drive if I am back from work in time. On my commute I occasionally see a black C4 near Braintree, a black C6 in Stansted, and a white C6 on the A12 near Colchester too. I also travel to Birmingham three times a week and am yet to see any 'Vettes , also sometimes to Bristol and same story there! My dad would have loved the C5, the borla exhaust is fab...am 50/50 whether to eventually get cams for it too, but frankly it will never be a track car it would be more about the noise than any performance upgrade.

Essex region meeting is at Sandon, Chelmsford......but not for another three weeks. Herts/North London Meeting is closer to Enfield (or thereabouts). CCCUK Nats (not for a good many weeks) usually has a general meeting point at Birchanger Services en-route to Sywell.

Phew thats' a relief! "Taxed and Tasty" didnt mean anything to me, so was wondering if the early dementia was setting in? Problem solved. Just seen that "Taxed and Tasty" was the theme for the Goodwood Breakfast meet the next day which I didn't know about/attend. :ROFLMAO:
