Steven Smith replied to the thread ,87 heater control wire where to.I believe it goes to a blend door under the dashboard. Unfortunately centre plastic panel has got to come off to see the cable.

After 3000grit try a super fine polish on a clean mop on the DA sander. You should not need G3 as its way to course hence the swirls.
