Mystery switch

Rear fog light perhaps ? Obviously not a factory switch as no fog lights fitted to US C4’s.
Nicely concealed/fitted tho

the old fog light is up by the light switch, apparently stopped working and replaced with an old type pull switch illuminated below the fascia just out of view.

possibly immobiliser? there is a thatcham alarm fitted, not found it yet but it went off the other day when I was playing hunt the wire!!

C4’s did not have factory fitted fog lights as not required in the US.
I did think it could be a aftermarket alarm or a aftermarket electric aerial .

Passenger side ejector seat? ;);) But seriously, what's the thing above and to the left of the switch? And where the radio used to be? Mounting plate for detachable aftermarket nav/infotainment system?

I doubt GM would have placed a switch in that location and being it has no GM labeling I think this is third party
Could be an engine cut off as 3rd party security, could flip that switch and see what it does but maybe with that aux fuse box screwed up than that switch might not work
Maybe see where the wiring goes if you can get behind that stereo plate ?

What is that I show with the arrow ?

Took the idea from the European C5’s when i imported dad’s 1993 Camaro pace car, and had them cut into the rear bumper. Also swapped out the rear light clusters for 1998+ spec with the amber indicator lenses.

No doubt the switch is aftermarket, it’s done very nicely tho. Certainly with a lot of thought as to how it looks.

Some aftermarket switches look bloody awful and positioned horribly. At least whoever fitted this took looks and position into consideration

Part of a Cobra immobiliser apparently per response on CCUK Facebook "Normally on the key ring is a little pointed fob that has a metal piece one end that you put into it until the light turns red then you can start the car, without it on my dads it would not allow you to start the car (not even turn over killed starter motor & fuel pump) was just an immobiliser"

yes, that is the immobiliser, wont start unless fobbed first.
the face plate of the Pioneer stereo is off as the radio not working. thought there may be a fuse blown on the body of the radio but tools have not been able to remove yet. that said, I am back to thinking its a problem with the fuseboard

further to add to confusion, I thought this was the rear fog switch? left side close to the pull out light switch

The one in the photo is the stock/OE switch for turning on the front fog /sidelights, if I remember correctly? Pull out headlight raise switch to the left of that one. Ist position on that illuminates the lights without headlights coming up/on. 2nd position raises the illuminated headlights?

Ok, so it only does the front fog side lights. This one has sidelights in the headlights. The spare i bought recently also has a hole for side. They come on with lights down, so will check again when time. Baxk on 12hr shifts.

Don't fully understand this. You've got a '84- 89/90 flat dash car? Sounds like some aftermarket headlights have been fitted including sidelights? I probably should have called them "Parking" rather than side lights? Sold my '85 a few years back, so just commenting from memory. Not sure why anyone would do that? According to this the car originally has front "side", fog and turn lights?
Not sure what the "hole" is and presume its just the headlight side/parking light bit thats on/illuminated when the headlights are down?

Yeah, I used to have the exact same thing on my old Peugeot 205 GTi. Interesting thing and worked fine. Right up until a moron drove into the car and the insurance took the car and promptly lost the immobiliser fob - of which I only had one. As they couldn't start the car, they figured it was forked and wrote it off.

its got the lights below the bumper but think they have been bypassed to use uk spec/dipping headlights to comply with mot.

the lights below the bumper are the front fog lights. operated by the rocker switch next to the normal light switch. Come on with headlights up.
the side lights come on when the headlamps are down, so you cant see them, pull on the dip headlights and the lights flip up.
push the headlight switch back into the sidelight position and only the sidelights stay on. push the switch full in and the lights flip back inside.
