The multifunction lever on the left-hand side of the steering column includes your:
_ Turn Signal and Lane Change Control
_ Headlamp High/Low-Beam Changer
_ Cruise Control
_ Headlamps Switch
_ Flash-to-Pass
To signal a lane change, just raise or lower the lever until the arrow starts to flash. Hold it there until you
complete your lane change. The lever will return by itself when you release it.
Flash-to-Pass
With headlights ON momentarily, pull the turn signal lever toward you.
The high-beam indicator will flash to indicate to the other driver that you intend to pass.
If the low-beam headlamps are off, and you have the optional fog lamps on, the fog lamps will flash.

@teamzr1 I live in a small village and we have roads not designed for a stonking Corvette going one way and a bus going the other and my gut instinct is to give a little flash to the bus to say " yeah, you go and I'll back up and pull in" ....its amazing how I can say so much through a light flashing. Its like morse code only I know nothing of morse code! I can also hammer out " you may cross the road and I won't kill you in the process" and other classics like " thank you for letting me go and you not smashing my beautiful car" and even " hey, there is a police car by the side of the road checking for speeding cars and bikes so slow down"

Have you tried the flash to pass with the headlights on ?
Is the FOG switch shown below as on my 1999 C5, on yours by the hatch switch ?
If so,here is the wiring connector for the fog and hatch switches for USA and Export models

If C5 was built for export only rear FOG lights
Flash to pass works with the headlights on, mine is a US model rather than an export model, though I appreciate it wears export tail lights these days. The fog light switch operates the rear fog light ( no idea if that flashes when I use flash to pass! That'll surprise a few folks following me! ) which is another UK/ Europe oddity . I'll be able to check under the bonnet ( hood) in the week.
The round holes are still there. At some point the car had an induction kit fitted with twin cone filters and I think they were fed to a point by the holes. It's just if and where they have hidden the wiring that troubles me. Sadly the car is at home and I am out in my shitty company car. I'll keep you posted though on my adventures!

OK makes sense now
They were pulling in the outside colder air through the filters for a better charge to the cylinders
where stock filter pulls in hotter engine bay crappy airmass,
Be dumb if they cut those fog wiring connectors off, so look real close of wire loom going to the front lights
Problem with 2 round opposing filters causes air to swirl and air to collide causing turbulence as that effects what
the MAF sensor mounted right after filters reports to the PCM and causing fueling issues

I am not a fan of the two cone filters. The previous owner gave it to me in a box and it's currently running a stock panel filter. If the import tax and delivery ever goes back to normal I like the look of the Vararam kits, bit for now it'll stay stock. I want to get it back to a good base line stock car, then we'll go modding! Intake, cams,brakes, suspension, supercharger...the list goes on!

I appreciate the heads up @teamzr1 ...I hadn't done an awful lot of research into it but I'll look at the thread. I have always been sceptical of any cold air intake over factory. My theory is that the manufacturer will spend a lot of time and money developing a good compromise of cost vs performance. In my old Mk5 GTI I just swapped over to a ITG panel filter in the stock housing and that was a fair gain, maybe a better panel filter is the key?

Most of the Corvette tax priced so-called performance mods are total crap, not designed, just a con job as to performance gains
As you mention, want a filter with a lot of flat surface as that straightens the airflow

Front and rear badges are from GM and were delivered over by family who were visiting the UK and the jacking pucks were from Amazon @97BlackC5 . Bit of a life hack is to set up an amazon.com account as well as a .Co.uk , some times things are cheaper and still have UK delivery on them ...or if you got family or friends in the US get them to take them in and forward on the postage.

Hi Clarky,
Several years ago, I came across the "zip tie mod" or what we would call a cable tie. There is quite a lot on the net about it with even some dyno claims. I don't know if they are true or not but the logic is pretty good i.e. remove the filter housing and cable tie the filter in place to seal it against the intake housing. The main housing is so restrictive, it must reduce airflow. I know that some GM engineers cut large holes in the housing of their own cars at the time and this takes it a stage further.
As I say, I can't prove it works but logically it has to help and when I blip the throttle on mine, you can hear the intake pulling in air which you don't with housing in place.
Here is a video which goes through the reasoning etc. I looked at spending a lot of money on a specialist intake, but this costs a quid or two for the cable ties so got to be worth a try! Put it this way, I haven't gone back to the stock housing even though I bought a Z06 version which has a small vent moulded into it rather proving the point.
