Airmass -
Quality over Quantity
Looking at Mark's PCM calibration of his C5,
the maximum amount of air and fuel required is only
1.2 grms per cylinder, and that would be at sea-level
so not a of airmass is needed plus GM calls the intake manifold an "air reserve" so reason the stock aircleaner cover does not have a lot of openings
Mark's airmass

That video Marks points to
The C5 is a bottom breather, where C6-C7 gets airflow from the front of the nose
The problem in that video is they cut the radiator shroud way too big and increasing the chance of pulling water into the intake
causing hydrolock which is death of engine
What I do is cut a shallow slot and install a duct register (used in your home for HVAC) that allows adjusting the angle of opening and cut is higher in shroud to be further away from any water
It has been this way in my 1999 C5 for over 22 years and never gotten any water in
So objective is flowing much cooler airmass which is a better charge of cylinders, makes better performance and reduces engine knock
