By the way, if your car has standard suspension [i.e. non-adjustable], do yourself the biggest favour possible and ditch the stock dampers which are awful things. Replace with Bilstein B6 and never look back. Roadholding and ride are so, so much better. I was amazed and wish I had done it years ago.(y)

@Invetterate do love a cheap performance mod!! And a battery drill too...match made in heaven! She is on the factory 2 position dampers still, i cannot notice any difference between touring and sport tbh but they are leak free and no error codes so they have a stay of execution for a bit! I have had a few cars on Bilstein dampers over the years ( 4 MR2 Mk2's of various flavours) either on black billies or B8s, and a Mk5 VW GTI too on a B12 kit. They are kinda my go-to as I'm too old for coilovers!

:)

I also upgraded the:
  • anti-roll [or sway] bars to C6 Z51 items with metal end links all of which work rather nicely too!
  • brakes with EBC Slotted discs and EBC Blue Stuff track pads [chuffing heck - do they stop the car well!]
  • remapped with HP Tuners software by Wortec
  • exhaust with catback by Borla and centre section with hi-flo cats by Magnaflow
All good fun!!

Airmass - Quality over Quantity
Looking at Mark's PCM calibration of his C5,
the maximum amount of air and fuel required is only 1.2 grms per cylinder, and that would be at sea-level
so not a of airmass is needed plus GM calls the intake manifold an "air reserve" so reason the stock aircleaner cover does not have a lot of openings

Mark's airmass

That video Marks points to
The C5 is a bottom breather, where C6-C7 gets airflow from the front of the nose

The problem in that video is they cut the radiator shroud way too big and increasing the chance of pulling water into the intake
causing hydrolock which is death of engine

ventair.jpg

What I do is cut a shallow slot and install a duct register (used in your home for HVAC) that allows adjusting the angle of opening and cut is higher in shroud to be further away from any water
It has been this way in my 1999 C5 for over 22 years and never gotten any water in

So objective is flowing much cooler airmass which is a better charge of cylinders, makes better performance and reduces engine knock

As to shocks, Bilstein had a service where people could send in their Bilstein shocks, and they would rebuild them and also change the valving
as how soft or harder they functioned

For my 99 C5 I went way costly Penske race shocks that are multi adjustable and also had Nitrogen tanks to further allow tuning shock function
depending on road or track conditions
Due to how much I lowered the C5 I had to install bump stops bottom side of shock rods
FYI, I mounted them upside-down as that is less unsprung weight
