Hi Funchi

Some good shots from the Ace. But they were after I left the UK I think. I saw a couple of cars I recognised, but I know I wasn't there then. I did see some of photos of our last trip there, which I think was about 2003 or early 2004. I know, because wife June won a copy of the uge Randy Leffingwell book! I'll see wghat I can dig out.

That black Callaway car belonged to Brian Neighbour. Brian had it shipped to Callaway at least once for improvements and it was tested at some ridiculous speed! When he was thinking of selling, he offered it to me. It was a little too specialised for what we were doing with the Corvette at the time and I passed - a big mistake in retrospect! I think it is now in Scandinavia.

Nigel Dobbie is a regular here, user name Vetteheadracer. He now runs a C7 ZR1! And, he and Jan now have a place over here in France, up in Normandy.

Hi kentvette you beat me to the Ace Café that was coming next, I am sure I must have met you in the past.

I wonder if I may have met you at Leeds Castle Kent a few years ago, you could have been representing the CCCUK, someone was and I had a good chat, it was an absolute joke trying to get in and I all most gave up.

As for the Chelsea Cruise I mainly did it on my own because of the odd idiot doing burn outs, and with my USA rear red lights not a good idea to upset the Police, I would sometimes park up in Battersea Park and have a pint.

My rough route was down the A13 I loved to roar through the tunnels especially with my side pipes, down the Embankment across Chelsea Bridge Albert Bridge and Battersea Bridge.
Return route down the Kings Road and around Sloane Square to Knightsbridge, I had the odd pint in Knightsbridge, then of too Piccadilly Circus passing the Hard Rock Café on my left, my Black Corvette has been parked up down the side road for the odd pint or for a meal with one of my children.

Next around Piccadilly Circus and then around the back doubles, heading to Billingsgate fish market, past The Tower of London St Catharine’s Dock and down the Highway home, I stopped for the odd pint in the Prospect of Whitby Wapping......

I'd left the UK by the time the Leeds events sprang up. You probably met my successor in the Kent Rep role, Gary.

After the CCCUK Chelsea trip we used to go up on a semi regular basis, do a lap or two of "the cruise route", maybe park either on one of the bridges or latterly in the park. I remember on one early trip we came back to the car to find a guy on a stepladder photographing the nose emblem! But we usually finished the evening at Johny Rockets - chilli cheese fries and a fab burger!

The last time we took the Corvette up to London was just after the start of "Fortress London" (or what ever they called it then!) There had been a long period of poor weather, but we had a lovely dry evening, so we drove up to the east end and into the city. We got stopped at the "gate" and the officer had a chat about teh car and off we went. When we got home I noticed that with teh poor weather and not going out, I had not put the new tax disc in the windscreen, so was showing one that was two months out of date.

Daytona Vette I need your help again I have found another John Greenwood Spirit of Le Man Corvette race car replica, or as you know more commonly known as, and always referred by you, the John Greenwood Daytona (Turbo race car replica).

I do not even remember taking these photos or where, but I am not surprised this would have been the only time I saw it.

As Keith Betchi's name has come up more than once with reference to the Reeves Callaway Twin Turbo cars, I am going to add another Reeves Callaway Twin Turbo car into the mix, this stunning black Reeves Callaway Twin Turbo car known to me, and if my photos are in the correct order, and they should be, taken on the same day as 8744 BP above, and the same day as a young Vicki sitting in front of the black C4 registration E618MMM and still with a valid MOT.

I like to check the odd registration, and it is surprising what comes up, some private plates go on to a different classic car expected, some go on to the odd modern car, and some don't come up at all, like Nigel Dobbie's BL 03 JOB, but I would not be surprised if Nigel had that on a retention certificate.

Hi Funchi
Yes 8744BP is mine, it came with Barry Perman's numberplate, and that pic is when I had had it sprayed by Paul Wayling in Dolphin Grey (BMW) Colour with three colours of grey stripes
It is now on BJI906 and Custom Exotics recently sprayed it in Gris Aster (Special Audi) colour with a silver, blue and black stripes, not sure of the venue, but must be way back for me if the Callaway was there.

Funchi you asked for pics of when the Daytona was white, well thanks to Chris S one of our Regional members he has just sent me a shot of the car when white, with three colours of green stripes and a dark green full leather Interior.

BP Daytona.jpg

This is how I bough it, but it is a little different looking now, regardless of colour

The front splitter now has been changed for one with three massive air vents to aid cooling, the hood is the same style, but a higher rise to accommodate the big block (you could get a big block under the low rise hood, but it leaves insufficient space for a decent rise on the intake manifold and depth of air filter). The outset of the the rear split rim wheels was increased to fill the fenders better, and a C4 third brake light added to the roof

and ONE MORE THING - this pic shows something very very rare that you do not see on a C3 NOW, I have changed mine BUT WHAT IS IT- CAN ANYONE SPOT what I am talking about?

Chevrolet (y) (Remember that Callaway from the Nationals (at Knebworth I think it was?)/Won Best in Show. Another UK Callaway owner was John Lloyd (of the Gyms fame). Used to get his serviced at the American Car Centre/American Carriage company in Kingston, where I saw it a couple of times. Car went back to the States according to this)

Unfortunately I can't recall if it was Knebworth where the photos where taken, I don't even remember if I have ever been to Knebworth House.

(American Car Centre/American Carriage company in Kingston) I remember that name but can't recall if I ever went there.

I need help again, how are you members adding other peoples posts to your reply before giving your input, I am not very good on computers.
As you can see above I copy paste and put in brackets.

Chris S has been following your excellent thread and he emailed me the pic of when my Vette when it was white and that enabled me to save the pic to my computer and then pull it out for my post

COME ON, CAN YOU SPOT the very very rare C3 item on my Vette when it was white ?

Daytona Vette, what do you mean by C3 NOW, what not ever fitted to a C3 from the factory.
I mean we could have seen many of these in the past on a C3, but we just do not see them anymore

you mention factory, well one of the reasons for rare could well be to do with a fraught licence agreement with GM

Hi kentvette it was not Gary Garwood I remember Gary, I remember you went to France I think you took a C3 with you.

Yes Nigel Dobbie was very well known as Vetteheadracer in the CCCUK.

I am sure Brian Neighbour went once to check up on his Callaway only to find they had not even started the work on his car, you would not expect someone from the UK to check up on progress in the USA.

Now come on!!!

I just asked the Wifey and she got it in under 3 seconds

Mind you she can spot a colour change to a Caliper on a Lambo at 25 metres

Happy late birthday Daytona Vette, any reason why the registration got changed.

Hi kentvette maybe you or someone else can help me out, especially the owner of a C6 re The Ace Cafe, this has really been bugging me, especially the night I could not sleep and remembered Barry Perman’s white Greenwood Daytona.

My car photo albums are not really in year order well not back then anyway.

The Ace Café photos do not come from my car photo albums they come from my regular photo albums because my daughter Vicki is in them.

Now for the problem, you mentioned the Ace Café years 2003/4, well my regular photo albums should be in year order, the year Vicki and my Vette were at the Ace Café I have down as 2004, and The Ace Café no Vette just a beer year down as 2005 (Daytona I won’t ask you to spot the possible mistake answer above and below) when Vicki drives back into the Ace Café you can see the C6 in the back ground, a better photo below.

I checked the registration and it could not be found, but even the answer could be inconclusive as the DVLA don’t always get the year correct.

GM often released the next year Corvette in the previous year like the ZR1 I first saw in 1989 at Bloomington Gold, so is this an extremely early C6 over to you all.

One reason I am called mad Funchi is I have about 69 photo albums so far, with up to 500 photos per album, yes 34500 photos and before you all put your head in your hands not many photo albums of cars.

Now lets get up to date, a lot of you will know this was the London Classic Car Show Olympia 2020.

I did introduce myself to one CCCUK club member but unfortunately my 11 year old grandson Luke was not feeling to well that day, so I often left Luke with the not so reliable motley TR crew below, well Luke sat on the chair anyway playing with his phone, I am an associate member of the London TR group, or that's what they call me to my face, so when ever I left Luke it could not be for long, so I could not talk very long to the CCCUK member.

I went Saturday by train what an absolute bxxxxxd to get home nearly all the lines were either shut for maintenance not running there full route or on the Central line a jumper, or as TFL like to call them one under, not sure my mad Irish underground driver mate Brennon would call them that.
