New user
Good afternoon All,

I am looking to sell my C5 Convertible 2004, in Millennium yellow. I have owned from new, imported myself from Florida, so its a 1 owner car and has rarely been used with 7,500 miles from new. Annually serviced and MOT'd, - in mint condition.

Please can you I ask for your help to value this car ? - Am I allowed sell via this forum?

Many thanks your help in advance, Tim

Hi Tim. Have you ever been a club member since 2004? Think the answer is as a non "paid up" member of the club, you are not allowed to sell/advertise your car on here. But some club members may be interested in it already, from your message above.

As to value, give Adrian Dromey a call to see if he is interested/how much? That's maybe your starting point as to its value?

Best thing to do is lookup similar cars on the internet and see what prices they are for sale at. Then price yours accordingly. Or just pick a figure you think you want for the car and advertise it. If it doesn't sell after a while, reduce it and see if anyone takes a bit.

Good luck with the sale.

Totally agree. Any trader will only offer you trade price. Your always achieve more on a private sale. The car has a lot going for it. Lovely colour, it’s a convertible, original owner and a fantastic low mileage.
If you’re in no hurry to sell, price it high and come down periodically if it doesn’t sell.
Summers coming, and “when the top comes down the price goes up “

There are people who love C5 Vettes and consider them the best combination of modern reliability, performance and economy whilst keeping the ethos of what a Corvette is all about. There are also people who will pay dearly for an ultra low mileage car that has been meticulously looked after and maintained. Yellow cars (and the trail of insects that they attract in sunshine) may be off-putting to some (but not serious buyers). Sell it yourself at your price......and wait for the right buyer.

I forgot about the bug thing with yellow cars, the last yellow car I had was a yellow bird Pontiac Firebird. Wash and polish it, five minutes later it’s covered in bugs
A yellow C5 vert is real cool tho, also a yellow C4 vert. I’m a rag top man I’m afraid.

Always thought yellow looked great on all generations of corvette. From Panama yellow on the 58’s up to “yellow “ on C7’s. Haven’t seen a C8 in yellow yet, I assume they do it, equally sure it will look great.

Very true. A friend was thinking about getting a 85-92 ish Bentley as a “toy” thing but was put off by the ULEZ. He wouldn’t do much mileage, but would have popped out in it evenings/weekends. At £12.50 a pop, it soon adds up. AND how long before it goes up to £15. Not to long me thinks.

With quite a few ULEZ cameras still either 'lopped', spray painted over or 'bagged' there seems to be quite a few locals who know the locations of cameras intimately and still using non-compliant vehicles, going about their respective daily businesses without paying ULEZ fees and seemingly avoiding active cameras.

It’s not a UK spec car. Said it was imported from new from FL. So ULEZ will apply unfortunately
Depends on how it was registered on arrival but generally speaking you're right. I'm not sure whether it is or isn't affects the asking price that much though? Are we saying a ULEZ avoiding C5 is commanding a higher asking price than a non-ulez one?

For me living within the ULEZ zone, I have to check reg of any possible purchase as paying £12.50 to roll off my drive is not an option. So a non ULEZ compliant car is not in the running but neither is a £730+ road tax car.

Had a look on the ULEC checker, and the charge does apply to this vehicle.
I would say that a ULEZ exempt car would be easier to find a buyer and possibly worth more .
I also think by the end of this year the charge will increase to at least £15.00. I very surprised it’s still £12.50.

It seems that non-ULEZ compliant Vettes relate to four specific marques.
C4's that are not old enough to be applicable for Historic status (need to be 40+ years old for elegibility and free road tax), the later C4's and non official UK GM dealership supplied C5, C6 and C7 models plus perhaps the odd personal import LHD C8.
Theoretically owners of these later models 'should' with suitable documentation be able to claim ULEZ compatibility, with the owners providing relevant information to TFL to get their status changed.
But being as Khan and his renegade TFL organisation are continually looking for the 'money' the chances of changing a previously registered vehicle with it's non-compliant status I would say are very slim.
For those of us who live and work within the fringes of London postal districts it's a really big deal and rules-out purchase of most petrol vehicles manufactured between 1986 and 2003 (and diesels up to 2016).
For those of us who never ever venture in to London's postal districts perhaps it doesn't matter/or maybe some may be happy to pay £15 or so occasionally (and perhaps the central area congestion charge too?)
We are living in 'rip-off' Britain where local authorities have become legalised bandits and thieves targeting the motorist.
Beware anyone with a 40+ year old vehicle if taking it into London for the first time. Check beforehand on TFL's website re. the vehicles compliance status.

As I don't need to drive for work and live outside the ULEZ, it's not so big an issue. But I do drive in at least once a fortnight since the expansion. I guess it depends on what you'd like to use the car for. For a low mileage example like this, I'd not be using it daily so the ULEZ wouldn't be an issue. It's the cost of an overpriced sandwich in the city currently.

But for something I'd be using more than once a week in the zone, it's be a consideration I guess. There aren't many C5s that are exempt unfortunately, couple that with trying to find the spec you want and it's a pain for sure.

C5Steve - couple all that we've said about ULEZ compatibility etc........then we have the ridiculous (for multiple reasons) car tax rates (formerly RFL).
Choose a C7 Corvette and you have the stupid scenario where a later registered C7 registered will be at the standard 'low' rate - whereas an early C7 will be at the higher rate (£700 or so per annum). Crazy, crazy system.

That was one of the problems I had selling my late father’s Chrysler crossfire convertible. It had ultra low mileage as it only covered a few hundred miles a year but fell into the higher tax bracket than earlier year models. The first thing on enquiry was “ is it the higher road tax?”
Was quite/very difficult to sell.
