C8 Grand Sport X (721hp)

Is it just me? - but does anyone else wonder what GM are all about with their somewhat illogical product marketing over the last few years.
They seem to keep re-naming/re-inventing/re-hashing names, (Grand Sport for example) and effectively eroding customer understanding of the product identity.
Is the term 'X' the 'new' name for 4 wheel drive (because its got the ERay front drive assembly)? Surely the car is effectively being made a hotted-up ERay with the new, bigger more powerful engine.
Don't quite understand the need to give it a new name and 'fudging' its product identity. Seems that its effectively an ERay 'X' or ERay Grand Sport?.
Perhaps the ERay 'concept' hasn't resounded that well with customers?. Maybe GM are simply trying to compete with the current marketing trend to 'place' products out in themarketplace with minimally different distinguishing features........to the average 'punter' all looking and effectively the same?

I'm still waiting for the "budget" version with a "powerful enough for me" (350-400hp?) V8 in it, but more critically a wonderful MANUAL gearbox . I don't need supreme firepower down where I live as you'll never be able to use it, but I want involvement of the manual gearbox. Yes, I suspect it'll never happen, but hey, one can dream.

GM screwed up using the E-Ray name as most people did not tie that in as a Corvette so a marketing
failure and all of last year sold less than about 12,000 of them

On the other hand the Grand Sport name has a long history with buyers and last month alone sold about 2,600 GS
and 35 percent of Corvettes being made are GS

Being ZR1 nameplate known for decades as top performance model GM had to come up with a way
to market the X as those including with the E-Ray functions
