Manifold and Carb Replacement

Hi Guys, Been busy and not had a lot of time recently but just been going through some of the recent posts and seeing what peeps are up to. Loads going on from small jobs to full Resto's. Ive just finished rebuilding and refitting my power control valve, a dry day last week allowed me a test run into Norwich and all was good.
Ive done a full interior restoration over the last few months including a kick ass Alpine sound system. Im now looking at fitting a Weiand Warrior Dual Plane Manifold and Holley Carb, my question to you guys is how difficult a job is this realistically. I think my main concern is removing and refitting the Dizzy and getting everything working first time. Any suggestions/tips/advice would be welcome. I am fortunate that i live near a very well known Corvette specialist who i have a good relationship with and who is happy to do the work for me but i do kinda enjoy and get satisfaction of doing some stuff myself.

I'd say it's not too difficult. Like you I was a bit worried about refitting the distributor the first time I had to do it, but it really wasn't hard. You will have no need to rotate the engine between removing it and replacing it, so it can just go back in where it come out from. Just mark it up first and check the timing afterwards.
Where's the photos of your interior?

Not too hard, no different to following a recipe. Just do it in a methodical way, Mark things up, take photos and keep everything clean. Check the static timing first, also check the dissy float when you put it back in.
if you want step by step instructions I can knock something up.

Make sure you check dimensions of the Weiand Dual Plane inlet manifold and Holley for clearance under the hood as from your photo you have the standard hood .
What Holley are you going for ?

Thank you for your kind offer. I'm buying all the bits from CK as they are on my way to work and he's a gem. he's already given me some great advice and all the bits i need to complete. I'll give you a nudge if i get stuck.

Ive already got a Holley on there which has been bodged onto the standard manifold and never set up right, with a large fibre gasket between. which is one of the reasons for the change. ive also been told the vacuum hoses have not been fitted in the correct place. Buying from CK and he knows the car so im sure clearance should be okay. but thanks that would be very annoying to spend the time and money & not be able to close the hood. The Holley is a street 600

Interior consisted of removing seats and covers, blasting and painting frames, new hinges and hardware, 100% leather covers and new foam, full carpet set. Alpine DAB head unit with windscreen aerial, Alpine Sub and 4 Channel amp unit, powering alpine 6x9 to rear, and Alpine 4" to the footwell area. Alpine 6 x 4's to the dash (powered by head unit). Quality interconnects from sub to head unit. all interior plastics sprayed at paint shop. all interior compartments new with storage boxes. door inlays replaced with new american oak veneers hand cut. Purists will hate me for this but hey its my vette so leave me alone, LED cool white strip light in rear and front footwells, a bit of modern to old but subtle and hidden plus it lights up the sub and rear speakers lovely. Still a few bit to do inc the passenger seat, i am actually quite liking it without tbh plus there's room to carry things without the seat in there.:)7FC96270-0E76-4777-B406-E99B4617DE7D.jpeg8545E55B-8E79-424D-B991-C051CBD2D662.jpeg4210101F-775F-41FC-9CDB-90D5082DF224.jpeg9878E3D1-C7BA-4508-B844-A5B6D783553B.jpegA42A879A-D0F3-4859-8E04-090A3A10D9CC.jpeg8FFA2A65-513C-4334-AD17-F75425639B34.jpeg

I really can’t imagine Scott’s place being on the way to anywhere!

Lol us Norfolk boys like to be under the radar. my business is based in north Norfolk and involves me travelling all across Norfolk so im never far away. Sometimes i think its too handy especially as most things are usually in stock. :)

That's looking very nice. Did you put the new seat covers on, or did you get someone to do it for you?
there's a story about this. i did one of the bases (easy), and was 90% through doing the back and tried to re arrange the cover to get 100% when really i was being anal should have left it alone and managed to rip the leather. Im still waiting for a replacement cover to come from the states £300 ouch. After this i left it to a good mate of mine who's an upholsterer. when i did it myself i wasn't trying to save money i just wanted to say ive done that after making what i think is a good job of the interior carpets etc. The online vids are very good and its not that difficult, but it does require time and care. maybe ill do it again when i do the next one.

One of my best mates lives down that way so if I need to go to CK I come down and stay with him. Scott’s really helpful and his knowledge has been a real boon to have whilst I’ve been doing mine.

I've bought pretty much everything from Scott and think ive built a decent relationship with him over the last 6 months. If i have a question or get stuck with something he's always happy to help. Mines going into his workshop in the new year for a clutch and a few other bits so should be like a new motor for next years shows and gatherings. Hoping to get to some of the further away meets if this Covid shit dies down a bit.

I’ve got the same Weiand street warrior intake manifold on my ‘75 and with a Holley double pumper carb. There’s no clearance issues as long as you’re using a drop-base air filter base. Weiand is a division of Holley, so the carb and intake are well matched.

Do you think i'll get a performance gain, Running a 350 L-82. Looks like a standard manifold with a botched holley on it at the moment

Perhaps slightly, but I think the L82 had a reasonably good dual plane manifold. The Weiand is a more recently designed (computer aided wet-flow etc) intake so might flow marginally better but still a dual plane. It will be much lighter.

One other thing ?? Check the throttle cable / linkage will be long enough and run smoothly on the throttle pedal return etc? I've run into this on sevrerall upgrades with intakes on cars

Im pretty sure its a single plane on there at the moment. but I will check tomorrow

I have a single plane Edelbrock Torker 2 inlet with a Holley 750cfm double pumper on mine . But the engine is a 1985 Camaro IROC -Z 305 cu in instead of the stock 1980 350 .

It is a dual plane on the L82, i took the carb off yesterday but its not compatable with the Holley without a horrible adapetr plate that simply doesnt fit properly so i will be changing it for the weiand. So if anyone wants an L82 dual plane and keep their quadrajet carb let me know sould be available early new year. I dont know what it would be worth but i daresay someone will tell me. Also happy to sell it with the Holley thats on at the moment if someone has the time to strip it and put choke in.
