Painting my C4

I was a bit surprised by the lack of comments but perhaps people are just reading it, painting a Corvette is very doable and not the mystical art form it's made out to be.

Guilty but I have been popping in to see progress now and then and you're doing a great job that few of us would take on!

The summer has been fantastic and shite at the same time for me the MD of a predominantly air conditioning company time is not my own.

Needed to get the rear painted today so gazebo up and made shower proof


Two good coats applied before 10, it's already "dust dry".



Weather forecast is saying 20% chance of light showers, let's hope not just yet.

Nice to get the paint shiny straight "out of the gun".
Practice definitely makes it easier.

Found a brilliant use for my electric car, as a "paperweight" to hold the tarpaulin down on the Corvette while I paint it

Every panel now has fresh paint on it, let the sanding and polishing commence.




Lights to be refitted in the week.
New GM "restoration parts" front and rear emblems in order along with a new "Corvette" script badge for the rear.

Yes, thank you.
It looks so much better now, the paint has annoyed me ever since I have owned the car but getting everything working was the first priority, cosmetics had to come second.

The old paint was the wrong colour (previously painted a Subaru red) and it faded in the sun.
I had to polish it regularly to get it to look nice.

First panel of the bodywork finished.
The "happy" fuel filler cover.
After letting the paint fully cure I sanded it with 2000 grit then 3000 grit wet and dry sandpaper, used wet, to remove any "bits" in the paint.
Once everything was out and the paint was uniformly dull I used Farécla G360 on a wool pad to remove the sanding marks, then G360 on a polishing pad to refine the panel and finally Farécla Super fine in a finishing pad to really bring out the shine.
Any polishing residue was removed with panel wipe then I applied a Ceramic coating to give it some protection.
All new emblems on order to finish it all off.
