Insurance Hike

Special mention (or should I say, the comedy award) goes to Adrian Flux for somehow managing to serve up an excess of £1600—never seen anything like it. For anyone still shopping around, dig a little deeper—there’s often way More flexibility in pricing than the first quote suggests.
Hi.
Would you be so kind as to PM me the details of the quotation so I can take a look and see why it appears such a high excess?
Regards,
Dan.

I was recommended Classic Line but the quote you guys did me was £3900!! No claims, points, etc. Got a quote for £750 which was much more reasonable. The guy on the phone for classic line couldnt tell me why it was so expensive
Hi Alan, thank you very much for the post. We are not sure who you are referring to, but you have not called ClassicLine. Our office number is 01455 639 000. You are really welcome to give us a call, and we'd be happy to give you a quotation. Thank you, ClassicLine.

Crickey! That is eye watering! What are you, an 18 yo hoonigan with a string of endorsements ??😵‍💫🤣👍give howden’s a call formerly A plan in thatcham. Just renewed my 72 with them £213.00. 3000 miles per annum with 300 business miles to view piano access . Just noticed it is for a c4 and was reasonably priced last year. In my experience , some companies for no reason suddenly increase premiums dramatically for know reason. No loyalty for you sticking with them and just rip off the existing customers to fund introductory discounts to new customers, they then do the same to them two or three years later. I had it a few years ago with nfu on my van premuims , they after two years, more than doubled it , would not budge so I went with another provider at very similar to what I was paying nfu. When I received the paperwork , the cover was actually with the NFU !!!how does that work ? Baffles me. . Hope you find someone sensible soon. 👍

May not be the case in the UK but

Here in the USA with millions of illegal aliens with no driver's license, no insurance or even vehicles registered
or are stolen vehicles
Countless crashed by them, most then hit and runs
This then is put all in the American drivers as to insurance rates as insurance companies pushing all those costs on us

Worse and known by the feds is a group is telling wetbacks to on purpose get into crashes, than they sue everyone and
the money they get goes to that group to pay for those wetbacks being snuck into the USA for a high costper person

Got this today:

Dear Mr Curtis,
Over four years ago, we joined the Howden Group.

When we joined the Howden family, we said we would change our name when the time was right. Now is that time, and I’m excited to let you know that Howden will be the new name for RH Specialist Vehicle Insurance from the beginning of November.

That’s the only thing that is changing. The people that have looked after you will continue to do so.

If you have any questions please let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Thank you for being a partner of RH Specialist Vehicle Insurance. We look forward to working with you for many years to come as Howden.

Kind regards,
Peter Barrett

My renewal came through 2 weeks ago at the same cost as last year £2,500.00 for 3 x C2's, 1 x C3 and the C8 so I was delighted but did they know about my two recent speeding fines each 3 points in an entrapment zone otherwise known as a low emission zone on a clear motorway. 56 in a 50 twice ? No they didn't so they lumped another £1,000 on which I thought was pretty fair.

They add drivers at no cost on the odd occasion that I take two cars out and I have agreed values on all so I would recommend them.

Insurance companies seem to have a monopoly going on . I would be interested to know if you have to declare a non standard exhaust as a mod ?

In my recent findings most - if not all - would want it declared. I have even found that minor items like badging, that shows performance upgrades is to be declared.

£2.5k for 4 classic cars and 1 new car? So that averages at around £500 per car. My C3 is circa £160-180 ish with all bells, whistles and agreed valuation etc on a classic policy. I'd assume your C2s would probably get the same. So that's £180 x 4 for the classics = £720. So is a C8's insurance really amount to £1780? (£2.5k - £720).

And now you say they've added another £1k for just 3 points? So that makes the average for each car at £700. With my rough classics at £720 for all 4 classics, that means the C8 insurance cost is now £2780.

No offense to you, but if my insurance was that high, I'd be having heart attacks. Especially as I thought the blessing of age should be cheaper insurance.

Also Male, in my 40s, size 10 shoe.

2 x 3 points = 6 but when you put it like that maybe I should shop around

My '68 is insured via Peter S Taylor/Howden - so fully comp, 1500 miles per annum, agreed value, UK breakdown cover, modifications stated (so 8 litre and poncy wheels. Usual Cinderella cover at night re. garaging - so £204 per annum. This was about £10 more than last year. If I had kept the 3000 mile annual limit it would have been £10 more!
Have just renewed the daily driver - so 2016 VW Up! 60hp. Fully comp, social, domestic, pleasure, breakdown cover and 5000 mile pa. I'm retired,75 year old and no points, accidents or claims in last 5 years. With Churchhill this years renewal would be £602. Last year it was £477, the 1st year of cover before was about £59 less. I should have changed insurers last year but had loads of other things 'on the go' and didn't have the time to search.
This years £602 renewal from Churchill was taking the wee-wee. Admirals quote was something like £540. Tesco's £606. AXA via Howden £392.......so no contest!
I wonder what the 'peak'age is for the leasr expensive insurance cover is. I guess I'm past that and on an upward spiral relating to costs.
Last year I was thinking about a C7 (which would obviously require 'conventional' insurance) but prices (if the brokers were able to quote) seemed to be £650 - too much for the very limited mileage I cover. Perhaps living in a London borough doesn't help matters?

AXA via Howden £392.
So from what I have been reading, Howden seem(ed) very competitive on price and as we know acquired Peter S Taylor and A-Plan brokers. You daily is insured AXA via Howden. So are Howden only acting as brokers in all cases I am wondering?

I understood that Peter S Taylor had their own specific classic car insurance policy for older vehicles - I believe it has been underwritten by KGM Motor Policies for the last couple of years or so. It may have previously been underwritten by an alternative insurer prior to that....can't recall.

That is cheap. What's the agreed valuation if I may ask? Obviously you'd expect the cost/premium to be higher, the higher the car agreed valuation?

Its about £25k agreed valuation I believe. Granted I live out in the sticks in Somerset, but reading this post I'm shocked at insurance values. I mean I was peeved when my FTO went to around £200 quid, and I hardly drive that either. Both Vette and FTO are separate policies, and are limited to 3000 for the Vette, and possibly more for the FTO.

Me and the missus fully comp on the daily / baby mobile is around the £350 mark I think. Not sure as its in her name, and it has way more mileage limit on it (10k? 12k? 15k?).

I'd be looking at getting your agreed valuation upped on the C3. Would you really be able to replace it to the same standard for 25K? A mate paid 45k for a very nice '70 this past summer and it still needed a few things including a new convertible top.

My valuations may be over the top but they are agreed and written into the policy.

The C3 LT-1 they questioned at first at £80k but I argued my case in that I would have to find a comparable one in the States and ship it over and they then agreed it.

Silver C2 - 80K
Red C2 - 80K
Blue C2 - 160K
C8 - 110K This will come down with depreciation obvs

Whichever way you shake it, it's a minefield

My Transit costs £2k a year, no points, no convictions. One non fault incident and 50k miles a year… near as dammit 40.

My Twin Turbo Fairlady with fast and furious levels of modifications all declared is about £250, my quote for a C6 is similar. For a 370z it’s near double as is the road tax.

It’s all nonsense.

Adrian Flux have got to be the worst insurance at the moment for quotations and treating customers!
I was with them for almost 10 years with a vast array of different cars and vans, but every year the renewal quote was a battle! In the end I learned to always arm myself with quotes before calling them to do better. You'll always recieve a made up price with them! You call and ask them to do better, they'll then always give you 'their best price' which isn't much better than they've quoted, you'll then tell them the other quotes you've got... they can then amazingly do even better! Making it not the best price they gave you in the first place, is it 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
This year, I'd simply had enough of the yet again attempted extortion after they had me and my wife insured on 4 vehicles: a 2003 Nissan Elgrand 3.5 which I used for SD&P + commuting. a 2004 Lexus SC430 which she used for SD&P + commuting. a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX for SD&P only and my 2001 C5 also for SD&P only.
Tons of years no claims earned with them and beyond. No accidents either.
I paid just over £1500 for all 4 last year and when the renewal came through, they randomly wanted over £1700 even though I had sold the Subaru and now only wanted 3 vehicles reinsured!!!
They wouldn't explain why when I asked, then also told me I'd 'be lucky' to get anything cheaper than £1000 for my Corvette!
So off I went armed with that task and within the hour, I'd insured all 3 of them seperately with 3 different brokers, for less than they said it would cost to insire the Corvette alone! In fact, it cost me in total under half what Adrian Flux had quoted me for that 'multicar policy' which they claim to be cheaper.
I still have 1 of my motorcycles insured with them as they were still the cheapest. I have over 20 years no claims on my bikes also. But when I simply tried to add a 2nd motorcycle to my policy with a little over 10 months cover still remaining. They wanted a further £270 just to add it on! Even though I'd received an entirely new quote (armed again, knowing what was to come) and it was only £10 more expensive elsewhere with a new 'zero no claims' policy!
Where's the logic in giving them the business there? I'd only be recieving 10 months cover, plus not gain an extra ncb next year... to save a tenner!!!
They even tried to double my home insurance this year also, despite never claiming in my life! Told them to get stuffed on that too and went elsewhere, got an even cheaper quote than I'd been paying them for years!

All my friends have had terrible experiences with Adrian Flux this year also! Car and motorcycle related.
It really does baffle me how they're still in business with what I've personally witnessed and heard first hand 🤷‍♂️
