72 Corvette - Restoration Updates

I have a 72 with the leather hoops. Mine were all disintegrated so I got a cheap replacement leather handbag strap from Amazon and recreated them.

I was pleased how they came out and it was pretty inexpensive.

Hi Daniel, many thanks for your brilliant suggestion. So much easier, almost certainly better and probably cheaper too.



I have found the rest of the hardware I need to complete the job. The lock surrounds are being painted so should be able to finish the compartments by the end of the week.

I removed and put some rust treatment on my lock surrounds as they were quite rough. I then cleaned and sanded them smooth followed by a matt black rattle can.
Mine were black when I got it, I notice yours are colour coded, I wonder if mine were supposed to be colour coded as well?
Thinking about it mine originally had a black interior so maybe they were the original surrounds?
I guess if I can find out what the interior blue is I should correct mine?
