Lendrum and Hartman (in Hammersmith). Anyone remember that name? GM authorised dealer for US models including Corvette. Still on the go in 1978 according to this ad for their brochure?

They were in the Kings Road before Hammersmith

Hi Chevrolet I remember the name Lendrum and Hartman but not sure if I ever went to their show room.

Am I correct there was a dealer in Park Lane who was a GM authorised dealer for US models including Corvette, could that also be Lendrum and Hartman.

I remember GM Europe started selling Corvettes.

We will also remember Bauer Millett Manchester, now we have Ian Allan Motors.

I remember an American second hand dealer in West London I went to look at a 1981 Corvette, am I correct that was the Chequered Flag.

One for you Roscobbc was the second hand sports car dealer on the corner of Mawney Rd Romford called Churchills.

London property in pictures: A former car showroom has been converted into Mayfair's largest flats.

It's the antithesis of London's latest trend for tiny houses squeezed into gaps between buildings: a block of flats described as London's "largest" apartments on the site of a former car showroom has gone on sale in Mayfair.

Glebe, the developer behind The Mellier, says its apartments have the largest rooms of any flats in London, with ceilings up to 3.5m (11.5ft) high, and 6.5m by 5.3m bedrooms.

In fact, at 5,845 sq ft, the company reckons the three-bedroom penthouses are the size of "extremely large five bedroom flats".

The building's exterior still provides a nod to its history

The penthouses have some of the largest room dimensions of any new homes in the capital

The building is on the site of the former headquarters of Lendrum & Hartman, luxury Buick and Cadillac car dealers. In the 1920s, it was known as Buick House, with the cars showcased on its ground floor, while the company's boss, F.W. Hartman, had a flat on the top floor.

The building in its heyday as a Buick showroom.

Its latest incarnation began in 2011, when Glebe bought the building and appointed Eric Parry Architects to design the entrance hall and interior layouts, while Studio Makreth designed the rest of the interior.

But alas, the space comes at a premium: flats start at £18m, with a duplex penthouse coming in at a cool £30m.

Hi Rosoco (Lived just around the corner to that place in the late 70's - don't recall American cars there) if we are talking about Mawney Rd, no they did not sell American cars, it was all the small mainly British sports cars like Lotus Triumph Jaguar Jenson etc. (y)

I was correct about the Chequered Flag West London.

The west London could be the old Cliff Davis cars in Goldhawk Road, still there not called that anymore though, the London based one in Park Lane was Stratstones Corvette & Cadillac, now an Aston Martin dealer.
Also don’t forget Winning Post in Chingford Hatch, the owner still Herbie still sells yanks from home down the hill from the Wakes Arms.AD6CECFA-EAA8-498F-A1B8-609AB0811A0B.jpeg

I remember Lendrum and Hartman (Hammersmith) from approx 50 years go, my Dad had some business to do in London, I went with him and we detoured on the way back so I could take a look at the Corvettes, there was a C3 with the door open and the window up, the window was not secure and rattled and my Dad said; "why do you want one of these?"

I have to say many years later when I bought my first C3, I brought it back a long drive from Devon and needed to deposit the car at my parent's house and go off in another car, when I returned later that day my Father had washed the Vette - How lovely was that!

The name Stephen Overoff comes to mind as a well known Vette showroom London way - can someone fill in the gaps for me?
American Car Centre - son of father now runs its - originally in Kingston - then Barnes - now Lettice Street Chelsea and still importing and selling yankie motors - have asked them a couple of times to become an advertiser/supporter of the club - they decline, preferring to go 'their own way'...............you'd see Hellcats and other exotica there......American Car Centre

Stephen Ouvaroff passed a few years ago. See that they "Chair the American Import Agents Association, an organisation which has for decades been the acknowledged represented of our specialist market as a whole at the UK Department of Transport’s Stakeholder Group"

When I started going to The American Car Centre in Kingston 1989 with the C4, the slim, young, fresh faced Service coordinator was Mr Ian Goss. Have now known Ian/been looking after my cars for 31 years. "The man" to go to if you have a Vette (or anything in fact) down Surbiton way:

Yes, regret that BM closed. Young Mitch the owner was so helpful to Vette owners with their queries on Pistonheads. Spoke to Neil (ex BM) at Parts USA a few weeks back. Mitch now lives in Brazil according to him.

Hi, interesting to read all these posts.I first saw a Corvette (C3) whilst passing Cliff Davis cars in Shepherds Bush on way to White City Dog Stadium in late 60's. Bought my first car, a 1600E Cortina for £620, from a small dealer opposite American Car Centre in Kingston, couldn't afford a Corvette. Eventually, many years and many cars later eventually had enough to buy my first Corvette in 1991....I still have it, a 1982 C3 Crossfire Injection in bright blue plus 3 more. First went to a Corvette Club meet at Syon Park.

Thanks for starting this as brings back so many memories.
