Not much progress today, fixing the dishwasher and building a raised vegetable bed.

But got the bell housing off the original engine to look at what I need to join box and engine together and gave the garage a clean and tidy.

Brake calliper bolts undone relatively easily to split them in half and rebuild.

Someone (what’s the French equivalent of a Bubba?) has been at the carb and bodged an insert into the air cleaner stud hole, tried to remove it but it just disintegrated, guess I’ll have to drill and tap it.

Well brake calipers are all useless. It’d got recon callipers on when I bought it, so I thought as a couple were weeping I’d change the seals and it’d all be good. Well that didn’t work out. The bores are the roughest things I think I’ve ever seen from a brake component!

There would appear to be more than one meaning of 're-conditioned' - just replacing the seals would seem to be one. Those bores certainly have more than a touch of the badgers bum about them - very annoying.
Sadly I'm finding the older I get the more jaundiced I become about believing anything in the description of a car for sale.

At least the body is looking great Tim. (y)

I was thinking about this last night the calipers had QR code stickers on them and paint checks so looked like off the shelf items, hope the ones I’ve ordered aren’t dross too.

I’m now wondering about the master cylinder!

If I'd spent as much time, money and effort as you in building this I'd definitely want to know the car is going to stop when I need it to ;)

You didn't opt for a Willwood conversion then? Or are they not allowed in the rules you're running to?

Has to be period correct so it’s either the standard system, J56 or Hirst Airheart.

Airheart are silly money if you can find them and the J56 doesn’t seem to have the pad choices and with modern fluids the insulated pistons aren’t the advantage they once were.

So brake stuff on hold till bits arrive, thought I’d put the engine and box together.

first thing to do was to fit the camshaft core plug, but no chance that’s going in there. Despite what everyone seems to say there’s more than one size and I can’t get a 2 3/32” one anywhere in the UK so at a standstill.

If you are sat twiddling your thumbs at the moment I know of a 73 near Southampton that could do with with a bit of expert fettling, tea and biscuits provided (y)
